Can someone please advise me on how to get better detailed sound from my Hi-fi system. I am currently using a Yamaha Rxv 2500 as AV, a Plinius P10 as power amp, Arcam CD73T CD Player and Jamo E855 Front speakers.
Please advise

There are many ways of dealing with the sound you get from your speakers, including but not limited to speaker placement and room acoustics. A great deal of what you hear is a product of your room and the way your speakers interact with the walls, ceiling and floor. Shoot on down to the room acoustics forum and post a layout of your room or some photos. There are true experts that frequent that forum that can really help you.

I find that most room acoustic issues are greatly reduced (if not eliminated) by keeping the speakers well away from all room boundaries. I have my Mirage Omni 150s on stands 2' from the side walls and 7' from the wall behind them. The sound is crystal clear.

I'm a little puzzled about this. You have a very decent set of speakers. I have not heard that model, but have heard other Jamo speakers, and if anything they are a little over analytical. You amp has plenty of power and will deliver 300 watts into 4 ohms.

What type of program are you playing into them, and from what sources? Which types of program displease you the most? You do not mention any sub. Is there one that might be mucking things up?

How are the speakers placed in your room, and what are the dimensions of your room? By rights you ought to have a superior system.

Did you use the YPAO or do it by hand? I dont think the YPAO works as well as a hand tuning does.

Keep this in mind...

Not all source material is created equal. A lot depends on how well it was recorded. There are more "less than perfect" recordings out there than you can shake a stick at and you can't make a silk purse out of a pig's ear.

Do I get extra points for using two cliches in one sentence? :D

Wait, wut?:D

That Plinius amplifier is some sharp looking piece of equipment.:)

Room acoustic treatments are needed, and if that doesn't help (doesn't make you feel you are getting more detail) then you may need to do some speakers shopping.

If your looking for 2 channel detail , speaker placement is very important .
Give a Carver Sonic Hologram a try , it forces you to place your speakers a certain way and on most recordings it details very well ( but not all , like Mark W posted some recordings are better than others ) .

I do not use a sub, can it be that plinius p10 is when played very load to powerful for jamo e855. What speaker and size would you recommend to use with plinius p10 and yamaha rxv-2500. I enjoy movies but also listen to music from alternative rock right through to classical?

Isn't the Sonic Hologram a form of sound enhancement, that deviates from the neutrality of the original sound?

What don't you like, the classical, the rock or the movies? Can you give a better description of what it is about the sound you don't like?

My Carver amp has that feature, but I never use it. Deviating from neutrality is irrelevant, but it adds noise.

Try all the 'free stuff' first, like placement, etc.
Maybe you do have to go speaker shopping?

The story below involves beer and an SPL meter.:)

My neighbor owned a set of E650's, and then going to the E875's, (the E855's bigger brother), it was a definitely a noticeable experience.
We A / B tested, after setup with my trusty R-Shack SPL meter.
Everything sounded much more detailed, in comparason.
In our subjective opinions.

Before you make a move try taking the Yamaha out of the system & swapping it for a dedicated 2 channel preamp with analog tone controls,i highly reccomend using a preamp with analog tone controls for detailed sound.

Ive yet to hear any receiver thats tone controls are not analog based that pleased my ears,i'd bet money that your digital tone control circut is whats lacking in your system.

For the best possible detailed sound, I believe you need three things:

1) Quality speakers
2) Good room acoustics
3) Quality amps & preamps with ABSOLUTELY NO TONE CONTROLS.

Clean, detailed sound coming from your Arcam CD player should NOT be altered before going to your Jamo speakers.

Things that will alter your sound include Digital Signal Processors, EQ, and Tone Controls.

This is just my opinion.:)

Accually it helps eliminate the crosstalk , I have a Pair of Polks SDA's that work in the same manner . It works well :) , I like the SDA abit better than than SH .
Yeh Joe , ive got a CT-7 that adds noise at low volumes ( thats why i use with my SDA's and never on ) , but the C 9 is perfect adds no noise at all ( and on all time in my bedroom ) and can be had cheap now days ( got mine for $45 ) .

Not sure if you're in need of info or plugging a forum. But if you are asking for info on this:
I just recenty puchased the Denon AVR 2808CI, it has a built in device that will detail you sound to your room specifices, it uses a mic to accomplish this. It's called the: "Audyssey MultEq Auto-Setup/Room Eq". Not to mention the receiver sounds marvalous! Has all the latest gizmos and is not that expensive. Got mine with a 3 year Mack warranty for around $895. You should atleast give it a listen if you're in the market.

But it isn't tonally accurate.
Absolutely, and I'm all for accuracy, but my point was that inaccuracy can sound pleasant. And, depending on the inaccuracy, could even be perceived as detailed.
