Which day for biggest savings?

By Xmas, I will have saved enough for a 42" plasma. There are four days when sale prices are likely: Xmas day, New Year's day, and the day after each of these. On which of those four days should the lowest price be available?

I wouldn't have thought of that. I guess it makes sense, though, since people who care about football are a major market for big TVs. When is the Superbowl?

How is X-mas day going to be a big sales day? Won't most places be closed?

Circuit City and Best Buy were closed on Thanksgiving day, but they had sale prices on line. Not as massive as the sale prices the day after, though.
(The Panasonic TV that I want is regular-priced $900 at BB, so I am hoping it may go as low as $600-$700.:))

The following is brought to you by an ex Ccity TV salesman:
The Superbowl sales rival, and sometimes wax the floor with, the Black Friday sales.

If you don't mind a slightly used model, there will be a HUGE increase in open box TVs in the stores the week AFTER the superbowl. Yes, people by the TV for the game, then return it. At the same time they will also bring out all the Christmas returns from the month of Janurary. You will see tons of good deals and the prices are VERY negotiaable. They rate the TVs a 1, 2, 3; 1 being the best and looking like it was just taken out of the box. If you can talk them into dropping it down to a 2 or 3 you will save a LOT of money (they will bend a lot more if you get a package of stuff or a warranty).

I live in an apartment. Any TV purchase I make will be local, as shipping is not an option. The last time I ordered speakers, they were left in the breezeway in front of my door!

Hey Joe, when buying speakers online, the best shipping service I have seen is AV123's Yellow Freight. They will call you when your order is ready for delivery and will schedule a time to deliver when you are home. No doorway drop-offs here. They will even help you bring it into your house and unpack it for you. :)

You can always do the HD advantage deal at Best Buy for any TV over $999.

Basically it lines up likes this.

You can get up to $600 off any TV over $999.

Sign-up for DTV - get $300 off TV
Buy an HD-DVD or Blu-ray player - get $100 off TV
Buy any installation - get $100 off TV
Buy at least $500 worth of Home Theater stuff - get $100 off TV

So you say, what if I don't want DTV, a HD-DVD or Blu-ray player or $500 worth of Home Theater stuff or an installation for that matter. Well here is where you can use a loop hole.

1. You can always cancel the DTV service the day after you sign-up and you won't get charged a dime (plus you still get the $300 off the TV).
2. You can return the HD-DVD or Blu-ray player and still get the $100 off the TV because the discount is taken off the TV.
3. The installation is a bit tricky to return because most of the time the installation will be packaged with the TV. So my advice is just not to sign up for an installation (you will still get $500 off the TV in the end).
4. With the home theater stuff, just return it a few days after you return the Blu-ray or HD-DVD player. The $100 discount on the TV will still be there because the discount is off the TV and not off the home theater stuff.

These are the steps that I went through and I ended up getting a 42" Panasonic PZ77U and an 80GB PS3 for $400 total (it would have been a total of $900, but the local BB made a mistake and gave me a free Blu-ray player that I then exchanged for the 80GB PS3).

Anyone has seen any post-superbowl TV deals yet? The CircuitCity suggestion given earlier sounded like a great deal - just wondering if anyone has taken advantage of deals like that.
