Using a behringer DCX2496

Hi,

I'm wondering how I would want to have my DCX2496 and Emotiva RSP-1 configured.

1) Do I wan't to have it plugged into the external proccesor out, then have it go back in, and have the emotiva feed the speakers and the subs?

2) Do I want to have it plugged into the external proccesor out, then have it apply a high pass filter, and then go back, and use the emotiva only for the main speaker outs, and have the two sub get there signal directly from the DCX?

Also, exactly what types of filters do I want the DCX to use. High Pass/Low Pass? (I know I will want to flatten the signal as well using the PEQ...)

Finally, Will my Galaxy 140-CM SPL meter work fine for configuring the DCX?

Thanks :D

Did you check with Emotiva and see if the volume gain was applied to the OUTPUT of this loop? If not, not a good choice to use for this application.

You would have a configuration where the pre-amp outputs stereo signal to DCX. DCX then send out 3 sets of signals. 1 is to main speakers amp. 1 is to stereo subs amp. 1 is to rear fire tweeters amp.

Low-pass to subs. High-pass to mains. High-pass to tweeters.

Your SPL meter will work fine with patience manually logging SPL vs. frequency. If it has a line out jack on it you can send it to your computer's line in and use software like ETF to measure LF and miband response.

It turns out the volume is applied after the external processor. Should I just connect the main outs to the DCX?

I don't know what you mean. But if volume is not applied before Pre-Out signal of the loop circuit, you can't use that integrated amplifier with a DCX properly. You have to use a different device in that case. For example, the stand alone Emotiva pre-amp combined with the stand alone Emotiva amplifier.

...I always intended to use the RPA-1 and RSP-1. I was just going to use the DCX in the middle to control the Subs and Tweeters.

The volume is not applied before the pre-out...what do you recommend now?

In that case, the DCX will work perfectly. I was under the misguided assumption that you wanted to use the Emotiva integrated amp. The RPA-1 and RSP-1 will work perfectly with the DCX2496. Actually, the RPA-1 and RSP-1 have fully balanced XLR connections for IN/OUT. So you don't even need adapters to connect to the DCX2496. Combine this with the EP2500 with balanced inputs, and you will have a fully balanced connection network between pre-amp, DCX and amplifiers.

Oh, perfect.
I had thought you wanted me to use the external processor IN/OUT on the RSP-1.
Should I set the the RSP-1 Lo/High Pass filters? Or should I just connect the three outs of the RSP to the 3 inputs on the DCX and deal with the filters then?

No filters should be used on the Emotiva devices. Use only the filters in the DCX2496.
