New rear surrounds need have questions.

Hello All,

Currently im running a rather small set of Klipsch Quintet rear speakers on stands. They stand about 46" tall and clear the top of the couch.

I have a friend who moved and needs smaller speakers. He is willing to trade me his Klipsch SF1 towers ( stand 33' tall have 6.5 drivers ) Even trade.

I have a matching pair of Klipsch synergy as my mains with 8" woofers only there bookshelves on stands vs floor standers.

Now will these make a huge difference than my current rears? Will they have to be lifted since there much shorter to hear the sound? Is it even worth the trade with my setup?

Heres the rest of the system they would be joining.

Any input would be greatly apreciated as he awaits an answer from me.

Im concerned they maybe too low in height to reach the listening area. Would they have to be raised to a height that is cleared by the couch?

I would consider using the towers as my mains and moving your monitors to the rear. The SF1 is rated down to 40 hz and you do have a sub. I cannot find the frequency response for the monitor with 8" woofers, but its bound to be at least 40 hz. This way you could open up the surround speaker selector inside your receivers setup to "Large". Undoubtedly you now have it set to "Small", and the difference is noticeable !

You could benefit big time with some High frequency acoustic treatment too with all those Klipsch horns yelling at you.
Sorry, my own bias against these horns is creeping through. I've always found Klipsch to sound fantastic for about five minutes, then the overwhelming feeling of the horns screaming at you to back off just drives me out of the room. This is why Klipsch sounds great in a demo room - noone ever stays more than a few minutes as thats the nature of shopping for audio - In one room, then on to the next.
The only time I've really wanted to stay and listen to them was in an admittedly absurdly expensively treated room.

Klipsch definitely isn't for everyone, But coupled with a warm sounding HK or Denon it sounds fine to my ears. On some other brands NO way. What kind of recommendations for room treatments are we talking?

Your saying I should set my speakers to large? I thought I would need bigger drivers to benefit from them on large. Will this take from the sound going to my sub?
