Custom Installation

Hi, I just moved to New Jersey and I'm gutting my basement to be a theater room. Some folks I've talked to are Harvey Electronics (Eatontown), 6th Avenue Elec., E.D.G.
Anyone with opinions and/or experience with those places or others?

Not sure about them just be careful of the shops in NY city. Lots have been written about them on the net.

Customer installer

Ask for a list of refrences from the customer installer and try to check out one of the systems they installed. Also, one of the professional installer organizations (CEDIA?) should have a list of members.

Actually, CEDIA is where I found the 3 places I listed. They all have an impressive list of references. I'm hoping to find someone on here who's had direct contact or good/bad experience with an A/V company in my area.

6th Avenue electronics is a glorified Best Buy (actually based on their size it's probably better to compare them to PC Richard or a smaller Circuit City). My general opinion on these places is that they tend to have good deals on certain components- AV Receivers (but w/ limited brands), DVD players, & TVs. Speaker selection tends to be quite limited and they rarely let you try stuff out, and they WAY overcharge for speaker wire and cable interconnects.

Treat them as you would any other big box store- good prices on certain items, but I wouldn't use them for installation and/or calibration.
