I am looking to replace my Bose acoustimas 5.1 system for some real speakers. I currently have an Onkyo 605 receiver and my room dimensions are 15x15 with 12ft ceiling. I do about 70% home theatre and 30% music listening. I’m on a budget of $800.00. I am open to all solutions but would prefer to keep the 4 wall mounts, 1 center and 1 sub configuration. All help would be much appreciated.

So let me get this straight. You want small speakers that you can mount like satellites?

If so I would look at the following:

4x of these Mirage Omni 150

1x of these Mirage Omni C150

And for sub either one of these

If you're looking for small speakers like the cubes, Orbs or Gallos. If you're open to a bookshelf or tower system, you should get out and audition as much as possible. There are a tons of brands to buy in that price range.

ADTGuy, I like your setup but I would like the rears to be wall mounted. Can yo match a pair of wall mount rears with that setup?

You could buy a different brand of surround speaker, they don't need to be voice matched with the front speakers. Polk comes to mind as an inexpensive alternative. They have wall mountable surrounds, there are tons of options in this regard.:)

Edit: The same manufacturer of the Onix speakers makes this surround speaker system, but they are salty.:)

They would be a cosmetic match if you go with the South American Rosewood finish with the Onix speakers.:)

"Wall mounting is also an option, The plate that allows
stand mounting of the x-ls monitor can also be purchased
separately for wall mounting applications. Other wall mount
bracket companies we like are Vogel (www.vogelsusa.
com), Haropa (www.haropa.com) and OmniMount (www.
omnimount.com). When you shop for brackets you’ll find
different models which allow you to mount to a wall, ceiling,
or cabinet top, allowing for a great deal of flexibility."

"An alternative to drilling holes in
the x-ls for wall mounting is to
purchase the “LaunchPad” plate.
You can attach a mount to this plate
instead of the speaker! It’s shaped
like the base of the x-ls, 1” thick
and satin black. Using the supplied
hardware, you bolt this plate to the
threaded insert on the x-ls speaker.
If you use an Omnimount 30.0
‘WB’ style mount, you can attach
the mount to this plate. No drilling
into the cabinets! Visit www.av123.
com for more information about this
modification."

The SVS package will stomp an acoustimass option from bose at 3x the price.

Check out the B-stock deal!

https://svsound.com/store/index.cfm?fuseaction=category.display&category_ID=12

You can do the SBS-01-5.0 system in silver for $429.00 and do the PB-12 in black for $549. Total package price of $978.00 when it is usually $1,150 or so.
Or you could just get them all black for $999.:D I don't know about the OP, but I would want an all in one system to be the same color, and I think they are out of stock on the White and Sterling Silver matching subwoofers atm.

The $999.00 system comes with the 10" woofer not the 12". :D

Oh well nevermind.:D I would think either would walk all over what I have had, short of maybe the M&K. I doubt the SVS would blow up on me everytime it encountered a funky load, I would hope the SVS drivers don't bring in funky loads like the M&K does.

Ok, what do you guys think of this setup? I know I said I was a 30% music 70% movie listener, but I think if I had better speakers the music % would increase. I've read a couple of good reviews about the Mission brand and the price is hard to beat. What bothers me about the AV123 deal is the shipping cost, as I stated before I have an $800.00 budget.

(4) Mission m70S Bookshelf Speakers (1) Mission m7c1i Center Channel Speaker - $239.00

(2) Pair Mission m70 Wall Mounting Bracket - $59.80

(1) STF-2 Subwoofer - $349.00

Total shipping included - $724.49

Don't underestimate the SVS 10" woofer. It's not like other 10" subwoofers. This one has balls.
No underestimation at all! :D

If it is a larger room the 12" would be an advantage. In any case it will obliterate a "bass module". It would be like putting a Ferrari F430 up against a Prius.
