direct Tv horrible service

Just wanted to vent about Direct TV,

back in September the installer fell through my living room ceiling and it took 2 months for them to send out 2 idiots who proceeded to patch it and it looks horrible, now I have waited 3 weeks for the second person to come and try to fix.

Now I find out that since I signed up for 2 years they will be now charging me five dollars per month more to get HD channels which I was getting already.

They are horrible.

I had Directv for a long time, and never got very good service...

I made th switch over to Dish Network, when I moved into my new house last fall, and have been extremely satisfied with quality of service, hardware conectivity (HDMI right out of the box) as well as customer service...

I have 2 HD receivers, and 1 DVR622, and they work flawless.
I just called them the other day seeing that they had a new DVR 722 out on the market and they made me a really good deal, so I snapped it up. 1 day later my other DVR622 took a dump, and they put one in the mail the next day, with a label to return my broken unit.

All in all I am very happy with DISH. Whether they are more or less then Directv, I don't know. I don't care... as long as I don't have to deal with D*.

Warp,

Did they mention if they plan to add as many HD channels ad direct tv? I believe they have the infrastructure to do it.

I have Directv and love it. When I went HD, they charged me $9.99 a month more, gave me a new dish, installed it for free, and the receiver has HDMI at 1080i. And they seem to be adding more HD channels, up to a claimed 150 soon.

I would like to see a list that compares, but I'd like to say they implemented adding a ton of HD content before Directv did...

Im not sure of the difference... How many each has... Im pretty sure its a horse apeice..

I found this so far...
Dish Network has 75 high definition channels, leading the industry in HD.

DIRECTV now broadcasts over 70 of your favorite national channels in HD. By the end of the year they should have over 100.

I originally signed up with DirecTV but since the installer didn't seem to want to do the job and simply said I couldn't get a signal from my house I called Dish Network. The Dish installer said the DirecTV guy had no idea what he was talking about and I had good signal for even the DirecTV sats. Dish setup two dishes and I have a good strong signal from all three Dish sats. Now I'm glad I went with Dish. I think their DVR is better than DirecTVs' and it allows me to connect an antenna and pickup my local fox affiliate in HD which is the only one that doesn't come through the dish. That allows me to record three things at once! :) So far Dish has given me better customer service than DirecTV.

I've had Dish for several years now, and just had it upgraded with the DVR622. The guy they sent to install it, with a new dish/lnb, was a real doofus who managed to slip & fall on my (brand new) tile roof, breaking a couple dozen tiles. To their credit, they did send roofers to repair it.

This new HD Channel count war that just broke out is a big joke. I was quite happy with Dish's VOOM lineup along with the local broadcast channels in HD. Apparently, in order to compete with Direct TVs "100 HD Channel" scam, they added several dozen new HD channels, most of which are empty Hockey, NFL, NBA, and PPV slots. There are still only a couple dozen channels with any genuine HD content, so I don't know why these marketing geniuses can't be honest. Who wants to watch "Brady Bunch" reruns in "HD"?
