Ok... my soon to be father in law is building a new house and also building a dedicated home theater room... and it will literally be a home theater... atleast 120" screen, HD projector the works...

What components would you all suggest for a full 7.2 system, including projector 1080p preferable, and receiver/amps for under $25000? Will probably use a PS3 as Blu-Ray player.. among other things... the room by my best estimates right now is 16' wide, 20' long, and has an arched roof that gets around 10' tall at the apex. The room is in the basement, with no windows and will have proper audio shielding and such.

Thanks guys

Unless he is a gamer, I would not suggest the PS3 but perhaps a dual format from Samsung that is coming and had some rave reviews.
Is that a 120wide or diagonal screen?
He certainly wants a 1080p projector that will do 1080p/24 as well. Maybe one of the newer Sony projectors, the VP60?
This site has some recommendations for different budgets. The speakers is what will make or break the sound.
There was a speaker review of a 5.1 or 7.1 package, $10k that seemed most impressive. A horn type speakers, but forgot which ones.
A receiver with 1.3 HDMI, like the higher end Onkyo and he'd be under budget, even with two subs:D

He isnt so much of a gamer but all of us "kids" are. They are building a seperate "arcade" room but it will be geared towards 12 and under... so the PS3 would be for us big kids. and that would probably be 120 wide, not diagonal, it is a pretty wide room, atleast 18'.

I was going to recommend not getting married but if the family can afford a 21,000 sq/ft house then I would go ahead and embed myself as deply as possible...

I would also tell Pops that he needs more budget towards the audio side and go all McIntosh seperates.

Haha, I have already tried to tell him to let me configure everything... but I am only 22... why would he listen to me... not like I would know anything about technology... and I was chatting with him one day about what he is going to put in it.. and he said he wasn't planning on spending that much on the audio.. because he has bad hearing anyways... my response was "yeah but everyone else doesn't... and the more you spend on it, the better you will be able to hear stuff anyways" Yeah... it is being jokingly referred to in the area as the "Baby Biltmore"... I don't know if any of you are pool aficionados... but he also has the same pool table that is at Camp David... like one of only 100 or so.

Not trying to highjack the thread in anyway but as I was reading through it something struck me.

AcuDefTechGuy made two posts about dream systems, the first at about $13000 (excluding the TV) and the second at about $24000.

Look at the price of the cables in both system. $300 from BJC.

That is great, and that is one of the main reasons I am glad I found this forum. Almost double the already high total $13000 --> $24000 and not one extra dime on cables.

Put the money where it is best spent, the components rather than the cables.

Kudos to all, including BJC for making excellent, but affordable cables

Just my $0.02
Cheers
Michael
