Mitsubishi 1080P Question

according to their website, 73" is the largest DLP Mits makes. 80" wouldn't fit where I need to put it, and would be too large for my viewing distance.
You mean you have never sat on the very first row at a movie theater?:D

I guess they assume that anyone wanting more than 73" should get a projector?

I just hate it when I buy a 62" TV, and they come out with a 65" TV 3 months later. So when I buy a 73" TV, they'll come out with a 80" TV 3 months later.:D

In that case, buy a 73" now, so when I have the money they will have a 78" or 80" and I can start working on making room to fit it!

I actually have a pretty good setup where I am now so that I could have a projector, I just think that would be too involved for me right now, and I don't want to save up forever to get a nice 1080p projector and a good screen. But the 50" I have now looks good, and isn't too small, I can only imagine what the 73" is going to look like in my living room when I finally get it. Between the big tv and my killer sound system, I will be the envy of all my friends, and I may never want to go to the movies ever again.

You are not going to be happy until you get that 73" MIT.:D

I've used a projector for about 10 years. You just can't beat that LARGE screen WOW factor. Imagine playing PS3 games on a 120" screen. Imagine watching movies on a 120" screen. It will be like you're on the first row at the theaters.
Right now, I know I can get a Fixed 120" WideScreen (16:9) w/black velvet Frame for $600. The Epson 1080p projector is $2,500. I actually saw Transformers HD DVD at a Ulitmate Electronics store w/ the Epson 1080p projector, Mitsubishi Projector, and JVC projector. They all looked the same on the 120" WideScreen.
You give up the Brightness of the MIT DLP Rear Projection TV, but how can you compete with that 120" screen?:D

The 2 things I totally hate about movie theaters are
1) Lousy 5.1 DD or DTS sound.
2) Lousy Low Light picture.

But I just don't have the patience to wait 6 months to watch a movie.

I know, but I have no choice, I have zero extra money in my home theater acct. right now, in fact I still have to finish getting the money I need for my new receiver, but I will have that as soon as I sell this computer I have to fix. Then I will start saving dilligently for the new tv, hopefully the newer models will come out soon and further drive down the price of the WD-73733.

I'm saving up money right now as we speak for a Trinity Signature. It's going to take me another year. I think I can fit that thing in as an end-table and my wife wouldn't even know.

I just read on Sound & Vision that the new Samsung BD-UP5000 can probably only send DTS-MA via Bitstream, so looks like I'm going to pass on that for now.

Sometimes the wait is a good thing. By the time you have the funds for the WD-73733 (or the Epson 1080p Projector) next year, it may very likely be around $2,000 or, dare I say, even $1,800?

I can't even buy another TV unless the ProScan TV in my bedroom or the Sony TV in my living room malfunctions. Or until I move to a newer bigger house in probably 2 or 3 more years.

So we have plenty of time to decide what to buy next.:D

Epson 1080p Projector vs. MIT 73" DLP?
I keep on going back & forth.

The good thing about a projector is that you can adjust picture size.
If you can only accomodate 60" now, that's okay.
If you can expand to 120" in two years, that's great.

Yeah, projectors are nice, but if you decide to go larger, you need to buy or make a bigger screen. And for me, getting a nice projector would be too involved, I don't want to move a lot of stuff around, and have to buy a mount, screen, long run of HDMI cable, etc. I would be better off just getting a nice bright 1080p 73" tv. And since I don't want to sell my current tv for about $600 when it cost me $1600, I think I'll just put it in my bedroom to replace my current 19" Sanyo tube tv.

Mitsubishi did have a 80" Rear Projection television.
I remember that, but it was not HDTV 1080p & not 16:9 Widescreen, right?
It was the old 4:3 TV. I remember that a while back.

No, I mean a NEW 80" 16:9 HDTV 1080p DLP TV.:D

Yeah, you are right. See I keep on going back and forth with this thing. You just CANNOT beat the BRIGHTNESS & CLARITY of a great HDTV. Projectors are great for the big size, but will never be as bright & clear as a MIT 73" DLP.

I'll probably just get the 73" MIT DLP too. Probably won't get the Diamond series like Greg, since I am really cheap.:D

Unless they come out with a bigger one.:D

Ok, I picked up a BP-1400 this weekend and got my 2 free discs to start with. First movie I watched was 300. I was not happy with alot of the scenes. A lot of the faces looked grainy. The second movie was Training Day. This movie looked much better. I did not notice any flaws in the picture. I tried a standard DVD and it was much better than what I had with my other 1080i player. So I guess I am not sure how happy I am because of the flaws I saw in the movie 300.

Is 300 a movie that is not up to par for Bluray?

The BP-1400 set itself up once connected to the TV. It outputed 1080i to the TV. I tried setting the output to 1080P and it gave me an error message and automaticaly set itself back to 1080i.

I am half tempted to take the 1400 back and try a Sony S500 to see if the movie 300 is less grainy. Any thoughts on this?

Dont judge the player by the movie 300, the director cut it that way. Go get Ratatoulli or Underworld revolution for a true sample of fine video and audio.

when does Mitsubishi put out it's new models? Are they released at the first part of the year, or later on? I still see the 733,734, and 833 series tv's listed as new. I'm hoping that new models will come out early next year so I can get a good deal on the last years model.

Welcome to 1990; a TV that weighs 500 lbs, looks like a square and is 28 '' deep has no place in my house. About the second you but that they will come out with one that is 9" deep on a pedastal and I will get it!
