Mitsubishi 1080P Question

Hello all,

I am new to the forum and have been reading up on all the new audio and video components I have been wanting to purchase. I purchased a Mitsubishi 1080P back in late 05. Its a WD-62627. I have been waiting for the 1080P DVD players to drop in price and have now descided to get a BR/HD combo DVD player.
Heres my question...When I look at the back of the TV HDMI inputs, it says it supports 480/720 and 1080i. I looked in the manual and it says that the TV does not support 1080P via HDMI. What the heck? Is this not a 1080P TV? How do I get my 1080P HDMI input from the DVD player into the TV then? Maybe this is real beginner question but I how will I enjoy the benefits of BluRay and HD if I only have a 1080i input?

Thanks,

Mark

From what I understand, most 1080p televisions made before the late '06 models did not support a 1080p input. They take a 1080i input and deinterlace the signal to 1080p. Your mits probably has a good enough deinterlacer that will means you wouldn't notice any real difference between a 1080p and a 1080i input.

how will I enjoy the benefits of BluRay and HD if I only have a 1080i input?
And to address this, a 1080i signal from an HD source will still be leaps and bounds ahead of a SD dvd signal in terms of picture quality. Just set your new combo player to output at 1080i, and enjoy the picture ;)

Well, unfortunately the hi def DVD player needs to convert the 1080p disc to 1080i, then your TV will do the rest. It should still be a spectacular picture. If that TV was not ISF calibrated, you should have it done.

Ok, if I am understanding this correctly, I should still see the benefits of BluRay and HD? So my new DVD player will convert 1080P into 1080i, then my TV will upconvert it from the 1080i to 1080P again, giving me close to the same picture as what I would have had with a true HDMI 1.3a interface?
Right now I have a 1080i DVD player and I am now wondering if a BR or HD player will give me any improvement in picture. There goes my plans for getting a Denon AVR3808 for switching 1080P! Rats..

Thanks so much for your time.

Mark

I have the same thing going on with my Mitsubishi TV.:D
All the HD DVD & blu-ray movies come in as 1080i and when you push the "Display" button, it also says "1080i". But the TV deinterlace to 1080p just like everyone says.

Now if you were like Greg with his new shiny 73" Diamond Mitsubishi DLP, you actually get the 1080p right off the bat.:D

Yeah, and you get it in 120 hz. refresh. Did you consider the 733 or 734 models? I'm considering the WD-73733 when I get enough money saved up. I don't need any of the features of the 734, and the 833 is too much money for me.

To tell you the truth; I have no idea what the difference is between models. At the time; I had a good paying job, was about to get my bonus and I just got the top of the line model. Flash forward one month, I have no job and wish I had of got a cheaper model...

When I bought my 62" MIT, it was $2,800 and I thought it was a great deal.
Now you can get a Mitsubishi WD-73733 73" True1080p for $2,500.
Life is not fair.:(

Uhm, that's a good one!

I think there are diamonds inside your TV and the cheaper TV only as emeralds.:)

I looked at the specs once, and everything seemed to be very, very, similar. It must be the better picture quality since we don't care too much for TV speakers. Maybe it has an extra HDMI input in the back.

All I know is that my TV COST MORE and it has LESS.:(

I checked this TV on line. It does have a full 1080p resolution and in one spec it did say inputs all the way to 1080p.
So, I would try sending it a 1080p signal first and see what happens. If need be, send it the 1080i afterwards but let us know first.
Your current DVD player if it is not a hi def player, its upscaling only a standard def picture and the best you will get is a progressive picture from it, even at higher upscaled format. With that size TV, you should plan on buying a full hi def DVD player, one that will do 1080p out as the info on those hi def dvds are 1080p

You think it isn't fair. When I purchased my 73" Mitsu they where $5500-$7500 bucks.

Now talk to me about fair.

I'm going to wait a while and hopefully the 73" Mitsu 1080p tv I want will drop to around $2000, that should give me enough time to save up for one since I think I'm gonig to hold on to my current 50" 720p Samsung DLP. I bought it 2 years ago for $1600 + $175 shipping, and that was a steal at the time, since best buy was selling the same tv for $2300, and now you can get a Samsung 50" 1080p DLP at best buy for $800 right now.

OUCH!

73" MIT for $2,000 would be great.

Think they will ever make a 80" MIT DLP?

according to their website, 73" is the largest DLP Mits makes. 80" wouldn't fit where I need to put it, and would be too large for my viewing distance.
