I need help finding a quality am/fm tuner. I have been all over the web and can find little in the way of reviews. I see Denon is selling the tu-1500rd, rotel rt-1080 and a few others. I am a two channel guy, not five, seven or a hundred.
I have seen a number of the Denons for sale on e-bay which makes me wonder.
I just purchased a Denon pma2000 amp, have Klipsch rf-3 speakers and a good outdoor antenna. I want to listen to am and fm.
Does anyone have any experience to share.
Oh yes, I see a couple of Carver tuners out there also.
Any help would be appreciated.

The AM sections of home audio tuners are unusable for the most part. There are a few good ones but not many. Basically, you should plan on getting FM and then listening to AM on a table or car radio. the FM tuners are very good and have been for decades.

If you can live without remote control...

...there are some excellent vintage analog tuners from the 70's out there that will at least give modern tuners a run for their money and, most likely, beat them outright.

...and you don't have to spend a fortune.

Scout out Ebay, flea markets, craigslist or local rummage sales for almost anything with a tuning dial from Pioneer, Kenwood, Sansui, Marantz and the like.

If this idea intrigues you, I can provide you with a forum where you can get some excellent info on this.

I could use that site. If it does not have a tuning knob, I can not use it. Too old from old school. So if you could direct me Markw. I'm on my way. Carl in Michigan

Do you have an external Antenna for this setup?

Just looked on eBay under Vintage Electronics and see a descent looking TANDBERG TR 2060. I'll check with my dad tonight as well. He had a great JVC Receiver that always sounded great, plenty of power, just not sure if it works anymore though.

Hard to beat McIntosh tuners! Look on Audiogon, Craigslist or Fleabay. They may be a little pricey (don't know your budget) but work well and hold their value;) A guy on here, HiFiHoney, had one he was going to sell a while back. Don't know if he sold it. You might want to send him a PM.

Good luck!

Not that this site has any problems, but it doesn't deal much with vintage gear.

http://www.audiokarma.org has a thriving vintage forum. They even have a forum for tuners alone. It might be worth a visit.

Keep an eye out locally. You don't need to spend an arm and a leg for a fine performing vintage tuner. Even the middle/low end tuners of that era provide stunning reception, given a decent antenna, of course, but this is true for a modern tuner as well.

a little different suggestion, but one you may wish to consider....

Sangean HDT-1X AM/FM/HD Radio tuner.

Reviews of it's analog performance are good, HD Radio reception depends on your local broadcasters.
