Speakers & equipment for a pre-wired home

Hi,

Last weekend we moved into our newly built house, complete with structural pre-wiring for a home entertainment system. The house has wiring for 5 speakers in the family room (the standard 5.1 Dolby Digital setup), and a speaker pair each in 3 other rooms.

Being an A/V rookie, I could really use some advice on buying speakers and a/v equipment - so do let me know what to buy.

I've listed some of my opinions below ...

1. Speakers that are flush against the wall and the ceiling would certainly be nice. (The wife would also prefer that they be white in color!) I know this might severely limit my options, so am open to suggestions.

2. I'd like the ability to play different things in different rooms of the house. For example, play music over the living room speakers while kids are watching TV in the family room.

3. I could spend around $2500 for speakers and A/V equipment, excluding a TV.

Look forward to your suggestions!

Thanks

Thanks Mazer. I will check the speakers out.

By 'flush', I meant 'at the same level as the wall or ceiling', and not protruding out.

In-walls and In-ceilings.

Guess that was the term I was looking for!

$1978.74 + shipping for the sub. Should leave enough for a suberb dvd player of your choice, depending on what you want it to be able to playback.

So you need a total of 11 speakers + 1 Subwoofer for a total of 4 rooms?
I don't know of any budget receivers that can do 4 zones.

Ouch! I missed that.

ZONE 1 could do one room.(5.1)

ZONE 2 could run two pair of 16ohm speakers. One pair in each room(2 rooms). These rooms would have to share the same source, but the receiver would see an 8ohm load.

Or, you could add a speaker selector for ZONE 2 to get speakers in the extra three(or four) rooms.

The above unit would still need to be used with 16ohm speakers to prevent problems. An impedance matching speaker selector is a lot more expensive.

Edited again on me

Doesn't have to be Speakercraft

O well I'm out of this thread.
I didn't edit my response, I just added the links to show the price.

As far as the OP editing, he stated in the very first post he wanted the speakers the be flush with the wall. No need to get worked-up over it.

An impedance matching speaker selector with volume controls would work, unless of course the competant installer put some in each room.

If each room has the volume controls, you simply need to get an impedance matching speaker selector for the other rooms.

Suddenly, this is not looking like a $2500 system.:D
