After weeks of trying to figure out what kind of sub i wanted and knowing the the most i was willing to pay was 600 bucks, i talked to the people on here about some of my options,SVS,HSU,eD,and Titanic kits.I currently own a klipsch synergy 10" and i liked it, but i had been wanting more and was drooling over the PB12-NSD from SVS, but it was 600 bucks plus 50 shipping and if i didnt like it i had to spend another 50 to send it back.
Then a friend mentioned eD and i had seen the name on here, what i didnt realize was the eD was located about 45 minutes from me so i drove down there after work last week, the only sub they had out to listen to was the A5-350 as soon as i looked at it i thought what a monster but the finish on it was an eyesore in my opinion, it did sound good though, but i wasnt really up for spending $600 bucks for something that i thought was ugly. Then someone mentioned Epik and i gave them a call.
i ordered the Knight before i hung up the phone and 3 days later (thanksgiving was one of the three days) Fed-ex was at my door. here are some pics here it is in the corner of my setup with the grill on

and heres a close up of the finish looks to be the same material as eD but much much finer the eD was really spikey and spread apart

here is a pic of it with the grill off and next to my newly for sale klipsch sub

heres a pic of the amp in the rear

and one of it in my setup hiding in the corner

Looks like a killer sub. I can't tell from the pic's, but the finish looks similar to eD's. How does their finish differ? Is it a finer black texture?

3 days vs 30 days is pretty good ;)

Now about the sub one thing i should mention right off the bat is that the finish on mine is the last of the subs with that finish, any subs ordered now have a new smooth black finish, for the same price.

My thoughts on the sub are this

At first i was not impressed, my mistake was i put the sub where my rear ported klipsch sounded the best, wich was on the right of the tv with my tower speaker on the right of the sub. then i moved it over in the corner facing out caticorner and that really seems to be the sweet spot.

I used to think my klipsch sounded good:rolleyes: My klipsch was boomy and just did not blend with my speakers at all, I know that now after trying out this Epik sub it makes my whole system sound much better.

Now dont get me wrong im not blown away by this speaker, i thought that it being as big as it was i would feel it in my chest when there was an explosion,
but i do have a decent sized room 16'W 27' D 8'H that and my listening position is right in the middle of the room instead of against the back wall

It does however shake things throughout the entire house, I was watching live free or die hard last night and i was wearing the thin pants like paper material or something, anyway when they were shooting some machine guns
I thought at first the cat was batting at my pants until i looked down and the cat wasnt there, that was pretty cool

Any way i have only watch 2 movies so far and this is turning into a long typing session, but i hadnt seen any post on here from owners so i thought i would share, thanks for reading and i will give some more input after some more testing

looks like the area where your legs/pants are is a better listening position than where you are sitting now.

try not to be at the center of any room, general rule is 38% from the front or back ... so anywhere in between that and dead center is good.

ya i know but im already 12.5 ' back from the tv its only 55" im not willing to move it back further, that was just the mounted machine gun on the helicopter doing that when the car flipped onto the other 2 cars not only was the couch vibrating but it felt like the freaking concrete floor was shaking , either that or the couch was moving , lol i dont know but it was kick ***

Clean bass sounds much different than the punchy/boomy bass of many subs that have an exaggerated hump. Also, as mike c was implying, you may be sitting in a null that's eating the punch in the 40-60hz range. Experiment some more, run some tones, get an idea of your FR, calibrate ;). Flat, clean bass at high spl is very addictive once you get it, but it's not automatic. The Epik is very capable. I'm pretty sure once you're dialed, it will be "Wow".

Looks like your mains are pointing straight out into the room? I really can't get a good view of the room, but have you thought about turning them into the listening area?

Also try this with your sub. Put the sub in the sweet spot (listening position). Then walk around the room listening to where you think it sounds best in the room. Then place the sub in that location if possible.

Thanks for the update on your sub, I'm glad to hear you are liking it so far. Just take some time to tweak it out and I'm sure you will get some better response out of it.

cheapskete OCer,

Glad to hear the subwoofer arrived promptly and in good condition. Keep us posted on your results with placement etc. Placement is the most important factor in subwoofer performance. mazersteven pointed out a tried and true way to locate a good spot as well.

Even so, it sounds like it is shaking your room and getting down deep. :) Like I said above, please keep us posted on your placement results if you try something different. Enjoy your subwoofer!

Mazer started on the right way to do it.
The crawl method.

Yeah, put the sub in your seating position, kneel close to the floor, crawl around until you hear the best sound. Remove the sub from your seat, and place on the floor where it sounded best.
There is a link on this method somewhere, let me find it (Oh and do you have a SPL meter?) ah here is the link (I quoted the quick of it, but certainly try the link as well.;)

"The advice I supplied in a newsletter some time ago, now in the Axiom AudioFile archives is worth repeating:

Move your subwoofer as close as you can to where you sit. If it's a chair, move the chair aside and place the sub in the spot where the chair was. If it's a couch, slide the couch temporarily out of the way and put the sub about where you usually sit.

Play a DVD with lots of low-frequency effects or a CD with plenty of deep bass, the kind that really kicks your sub into serious bass output. Get out the kneepads and crawl about the room in the general area where you were thinking of locating the sub.

Go several yards in each direction--near the wall, out from the wall, towards a corner, away from the corner, and so on--while you listen for smooth and extended deep bass response, free of exaggeration and "one-note" boom. Mark the spot, then move the subwoofer into that position. Now put the furniture back. If you are using two subwoofers, mark two locations and place the subs in those two positions."

Report back when it is setup correctly.
Looks great BTW.:);)
