I am asking for a new reciever and speakers for Christmas. I would like to have my 2 TiVo S3s and possible HD DVD player connected to it via HDMI (must have 2 HDMI inputs would like 3 or 4 but not a must) displayed on my Pioneer 50" Kuro. I would like to spend approx 800-900 on the reciever and 3-400 on speakers (rear speakers need to be wireless). The room is approx 20X25'.

I like the ipod control dock (i think on the denon) but its not a must.

Thanks in advance,

JT

Your receiver/speaker budget is backwards by most standards, but that’s up to you. To meet you features desires and budget, either the Onkyo 705/805 are good options for the receiver. To have a decent sound system to match the video will run more than $300-$400. I’d suggest you use that budget to start with the front 2/3 speakers. Would you prefer bookshelf or floorstanders for the R/L speakers?

I wanted to spend more money on the reciever so i could get the desired inputs i needed.

I would want bookshelf speakers if i just put the money in the front speakers.

Onkyo Tx-Sr705, 3 HDMI inputs ($799 msrp)
Sony ES STR-DA5200ES, 3 HMDI inputs ($750 at Crutchfield)
Denon AVR-2308ci, 2 HDMI inputs ($849 at Crutchfield)
Yamaha RX-V861, 3 HDMI inputs ($899 msrp)

$300-400 doesn't buy much in the way of speakers, let alone wireless speakers.

PS: "wireless" speakers still have power cords.

I think you got your head on straight. You can have a nice receiver now, and good speakers for the front. Then when you get even better speakers, you can delegate the bookshelf speakers to rear surrounds.

It's annoying when you don't have connectivity, isn't it? :D
