PSB T65 or Def Tech BP 10P?

Yeah I have I went and auditioned them yesterday. I went in and asked them to switch between the two but to not tell me which ones were playing.
I will go with the BP 10 over the PBS T65. I liked the tight bass of the PSB but the whole sound of the BP 10 were more enjoyable to my ears. I think in time I will setup a 5.1 with just the BP 10's all around. Do you guys feel that a sub would be needed in the future if I go this route?
For the best performance, yes. However, running the subs in the Definitive towers may not work well with a seperate subwoofer, so you may need to keep the tower subwoofers off.

I kinda like both, I am lost as to wich would be best for my system. What do you guys think? I will be using a Denon 3805 and running 2.0 until I save some money to get a subwoofer. In the long run I would like to run a 7.1
Give me your experiences, likes and dislikes, good and bad??
I vote for the Def Tech BP10B, but it's not because my name is AcuDefTechGuy. Oh, no, no.:D

To me, when played on the same system and source, most good quality speakers will sound very similar with regards to the high frequency and midrange/upper low frequency. Where they will usually differ is in the bottom low frequency 20-30Hz. So in this regard, the BP10B will theoretically outperform the PSB T65.

BP10B: 25Hz-20kHz ±3dB (20Hz-20kHz ±6dB)
PSB T65: 30Hz-20kHz ±3dB (25Hz-20kHz ±10dB)

In real life (practicality), I doubt that I can really hear a difference.:)
But sometimes it's not about what I need, but what I want.

I want a true full-range speaker that can play 20Hz-20kHz @ good volume.
Sure, I may be anal-retentive. I may be obsessive-compulsive. I may be a numbers freak. I may even be full of it. But "20Hz-20kHz ±6dB" sounds a lot better to me than "25Hz-20kHz ±10dB".

This is what I think. Obviously, you have actually done a comparison between the BP10B & the PSB T-65. And you can't really tell the difference. Right?
It's a toss up. There is no wrong answer here. So you might as well pick the one with the better specs.

By the way, I might have told you this once or twice before, but Julian Hirsch of Stereo Review really loved the BP10B.

Actually the DefTech BP10Bs don't even have a built-in subwoofer.:D

Mine don't, but then again I really haven't tried to set up my system to be without a sub, but those speakers are very sensitive to positioning.

If you auditioned two pairs of speakers for a while and you honestly cannot tell which one is which or that one sounds just as good as the other and the prices are similar, how do you decide which one to buy? A coin toss? We all know specs don't tell the whole story, but they do tell you something. Specs may not be the answer, but they are still part of the equation. So if it comes down to a coin toss, I'm going to pick the speaker with the better spec every time.

No, they don't. They sound like they do, though!:)
That's what so amazing about the 42" tower BP10Bs. You can get them for $450 each + free shipping and they are 20Hz-20kHz +/-6dB with absolutely NO Subwoofers.

You would think that the smiley face and the tongue would have sent the implied message that I was joking

I knew that. Sorry.
My bad.:D

Specs are usually great for conversations, though.
But yeah, when it comes to "budget" speakers, they usually have to sacrifice something. If they have better bass, they may sacrifice the high & midrange a little. They may sacrifice on build quality or material.

If speaker "A" sounds better than speaker "B", then of course I would buy speaker "A". It's more difficult when they sound the same & their prices are the same. So I would then base my decision on other people's recommendations, professional reviews, & specs.

Hi AcuDefTechGuy -

Just curious - where can you get these for that price and free shipping?

The only DefTech dealer I've found in Houston is Magnolia (Best Buy). They don't stock the BP10Bs. I haven't yet inquired about trying to get them via special order.

Thanks!
