When my girlfriend (now wife) and I first talked about living together, I gave her a disclaimer. I told her I am addicted to ht equipment. That if she wanted me then all my speakers, amps, wires etc were part of the package deal. And that if my 4.5 foot tall 135 lb speakers arent making me happy anymore, that some 6 footers may take their place! I also told her if she stops making me happy (I think you know what I meen) A 6 foot blonde could take her place....:D

People, people, people! You guys don't learn...Nimrod can do whatever he thinks is correct to please the wife, and it will not work. Might work temporarily, but not permanently. See, you didn't take a speaker decission by yourself, you took a furniture decission by yourself, and you have crossed into the wife's territory without her knowing...Man, you are in deep s__t.

Don't give her any gifts heavy enough to do body harm when she throws it at you. This is what is going to happen, she will get mad, but probably will keep her cool, and forget about it; or so you think. She will store this incident, along with others already on file in her, "I will make his life misserable someday", brain storage area. And, when she finds the right time, might be a few hours or decades from now, she will go to her file and find that thing that will make you sway and go her way.

In my case, my wife seems pretty understanding and basically allows me to do things my way most of the time; she allows me to go fishing, sailing, or road racing every now and then. She also allowed me to close part of our patio terrace to do a dedicated HT/AV room, with the condition that I built a new patio terrace with a small pool/jacuzzi, and an outdoor kitchen in the rest of the lot; no problem, I lked the idea anyways.

But, then came that fatidical day...I had sold my car to my sister, and was in the process of buying a car. Found this gorgeous always garaged 2004 BMW M3, SMG, Red with Red leather, Harman/Kardon factory system, only 26K miles, own by a lady who only used it on weekends or to go out at night. Price was a steal at $30K, as she only wanted to pay-off the financing balance to buy a 2008 Porsche Cayman (will wait a few years to buy the Cayman from her), as the local Porsche dealer does not take trade-ins.

I bought a car I have always loved for what is considered a bargain price...Basically the same price I paid for my wife's 2005 Jeep Limited GC when purchased new in 2005.

Well, I am proud to inform you that my 5 yr old son always arrive in style everywhere he goes with his mom, and I have plenty of cargo space in my vehicle to carry stuff like your sub...Do the math, and guess who wanted the M3 and kept it. At least I get to drive the M3 when she goes shopping.

Beware of the "I will make his life misserable someday" file I mentioned...Keep the sub and enjoy it, because she will never forget.

Grand stories like this, stories of courage and survival against insurmountable odds, man against beast, mano a mano, no holds barred.......stuff of legend, not seen since the dawn of man. No wilier creature than woman has ever succeeded at robbing man of his quest for audio/visual paradise, alas brave warrior cower not, but face the she-beast with your shield of confidence and guile knowing that the brethren of the tribe known as Audioholics will firmly stand by you. And should you fall to the fanged harpy, worry not, your soul will surely travel to Valhalla as we bury you in your SVS big box and light a fire for thirty days.

The SV Sound 5.1 setup was delivered to me, today, at work.
:D
I had upgraded to the PB12-NSD Sub... The Box is freaking Huge! Jeez.... Didn't look that big on the Computer Screen.

Any plans I had of slipping this set-up past "The Warden" (Wife), just got shot down in flames. Holy Crap, its a MONSTER
I'm jealous. Well, not completely. ...Not jealous of your 'Warden", but one day I'm going to get an SVS sub!!!

This thread is too funny.

The proper method of getting expensive gear into the house is to talk about it as much as possible...not sneak it in when she isn't looking. I talk incessantly to the wife about the stuff I am going to buy before buying. I am also way cheaper than her, so when I see her buying clothes and such I don't say anything and more importantly don't buy anything...I just count...
Boots...$200
Black dress...$150
shoes..$70
shoes..$70

...and its subwoofer time!!!!!!!!!!!

Once she has spent a bunch of money on stuff and I have not bought anything for a while (HT or othewise) then pretty soon it just happens and everone is happy.

Hopefully this weekend I can strike.

So this is what I have to look forward too when I get married? Well I guess technicly I have the same "problem" right now. The way I deal with it is by focusing on one hobby at a time. When I have a race car, I say "well at least Im not buying HT stuff", then when I sold the race car it changed into "well at least Im not spending money on the car anymore" It somewhat works :) At the current moment I have a lil bit of an edge, but it was more "luck" than skil. Short story, SHE broke my 880 and is feelin bad about it. I just keep saying, well Im not gonna replace it with the same thing. She is against the new 1000, but as soon as I remind her that she broke my precious 880 that Ive had for YEARS without a scratch, her tune changes :D

That's not really an upgrade. Sure, it has the cool factor but the lack of functionality is a real PITA. I started with a 1000 but got tired of scrolling through menus trying to find any button I needed to use so I took it back and got the 659. It's much more user friendly.

I got the 25 ft. cable from them, it's longer than I needed, but it can't hurt to have some extra lenght in case I ever decide to move it, and you are right, for the price it can't be beat.
