Beowulf - Is 3D Cinema a Sign of Things to Come?

They just released a live action movie last year (Beowulf & Grendel). Really, how many filmings of an 1100 year old drinking song do you need?!?:p
I have Beowulf & Grendel on blu-ray. It's pretty good, but it's not an ultra high-budget movie. So far, nothing compares to "The 13th Warrior".

I believe there are movies where 3-D could work beautifully. Superman and Beowulf were not those movies. The Incredibles I would see again in a heartbeat if it were re-rendered with this new process and released to theaters.
Yeah, make animation movies 3-D and just leave live-action movies alone. I just don't understand that director. Does he intend to turn every live-action movie into a 3D animation? Just replace humans altogether?

The HULK was 3D too, right? Yup, looks pretty fake. Certain things can be 3D--like dinosaurs and dragons, Spiderman in his costume, etc., but not humans.

i meant ... we had to endure 1100 movie versions of the same movie :D
Well, don't you have a favorite story that you wish could have been done perfectly, but just never have?

Beowulf is obviously classic. Most of us were required to read this stuff in high-school.

How about a live-action movie of Thor & the Vikings?:D

Oh, no, please, not 3D Thor!

This Beowulf CGI just looks amateur. It isn't even on par with what Blizzard pumps out. Even worse, the voice acting is so terrible that I have to mute the TV whenever the commercial comes on, which seems to be every 5-10 minutes.

Square did a better job 5+ years ago with the animation in Final Fantasy, and although there were a few cheesy lines here and there, the acting was good too.

Not to mention a Thriller dance easter egg on the DVD.

You know the great promise this technology has for the future is that we won't need actors and all their personal baggage and egos, think about it no more back-patting Oscars, no more Entertainment Tonight, no more Angelina, Brad and Jeniffer love triangles, all actors would be sims. This could be the beginning of something wonderful!:)

If it ever comes to the day when 3D Animation looks EXACTLY like REAL PEOPLE, then great.
But so far, they all look 100% FAKE. If humans look like Frankenstein or zombies, 3D Animation would work.

I said for the future;) No more movie "stars," go 3-D!

My opinion

Just saw Beowulf in IMAX 3D....i thought it was great...if you go in thinking its a good cartoon, not that they are trying to replace actors...instead of a generic looking king they made the king Anthony Hopkins(cameron diaz in shrek?) you wear the glasses all the way through the movie....not just a few scenes.....special effects i thought were awesome and i cant wait for more movies to come out like this... id like to see a war movie

I tried to watch it last night,i thought the 3 d stuff was terrible & not pulled off very well,i also agree that 3 d should not cover human movement, its not natural looking.

I made it through about 20 minutes of the movie before i got bored & turned it off, what a lame script:rolleyes:,the wife talked me into finish watching it so i tried it a 2nd time, this time i made it about half way through before i couldnt take it any longer.

Worst movie ive seen in many years,i'd have more fun watching Sponge Bob Square Pants reruns on nick than i did watching that mess of a movie.

Bumped.

I saw this the other night. If they had better facial expression and proper voicing it would have been 10 times better. Those 2 things, are whatch killed hte concept for me.

However, CGI Boobies are a plus. Angelina looked real.

Saw it yesterday with my son. Not in 3D. I thought the plot had some very good ideas but was very poorly executed.
Angelina, Oh yeah, she looked good. At least as real as she looks in real life.;)
