If you had your choice for a projector list below, which one would you consider for the following setup:

116" Wide 16:9 Da-Lite Electric Tension Screen

Seating to start around 15' back..

Which 1080 projector be for a medium unit Sony VPL-VW50 Projector, PANASONIC PT-AE2000U, Panasonic PT-AX100U or the Epson PowerLite 1080 Projector? or is there a better one that I don't know of? and is this size screen sized well for distance to seating?

PT-AE2000U is a way better projector then the Sony VW50, it's more comparable with VW60 IMO (seen them side by side).

You should go and look at Mitsubishi HC6000 and Infocus IN82/IN81 to.

thanks, if I go with the Panasonic with a 1.0 gain screen, is a 116" wide good for say 18 feet away or would i lose quality?

I would likely up the gain of the screen a bit to add some punch and deal with the larger screen size. The AE2000 has some added lumen output which helps, but take a look at the projection calculator at Projector Central to see if the lumens deliver. A bit of gain, IMO, is a very good thing and very (VERY) minimally diminishes viewing angle with a decent screen.

The 116" width is a good way to go in my book.

144" WIDE is really pushing it to large for that projector, or almost any other! That's about a 165" diagonal. I have setup a AX200 recently on a 160" diagonal screen and the results, while good, could have been much better on a 140" diagonal screen.

If you are talkinga about a 144" diagonal - then, that combined with putting the projector at the FRONT end of the zoom range (about 15' from the screen) and using a 1.4 gain screen will give you a solid 16 lumen per square foot. This is close to THX standard and will work very well in a dark room.

That's about 126" wide (a bit over 10') and will give you a bit closer than 'center of the theater' viewing from your first row of seats, while giving you a bit back of center seating for any seats beyond the first row.

I'm not going to argue with that size at all.

Thanks for all the valuable input peeps.. I will stay with the 116" (133" diag) at 14'2" for first row.. The Panasonic AE2000U is the winner!
