Hello All,

My Yamaha R-1000 died today. As you can well imagine, I have no idea as to what is available to replace this unit. I've gone to several of the "big box" stores but there is so much to choose from. I haven't shopped for audio equipment for over 20 years!

I have over 2,000 vinyl albums and just wanna hook up my Dual turntable to the new unit. If the new unit has AM & FM, all the better! That's about all I need, really.

Looking for a unit around $150-$250. Is that realistic?

Just seeking good sound and reliability. Something around 100-150 watts RMS.

Can you make some recommendations or direct me to a website where I can sort through the info and educate myself?

Many thanks for taking the time to respond!

Alain

Well just about any stereo receiver will cut it. But if you would like to step up and get into home theater in the near future and still get the fidelity you need, I would look no further than the JVC RX-DP20 or RX-DP15 available at ecost.:D

Super powerful, super graceful looking gear if you are willing to stretch a little. These units retailed for around $2000 a piece a couple of years ago. For less than $400 shipped it really doesn't get any better than this.:D

edit: the RX-DP20 was msrp: $2400 and the RX-DP15 was around $1600 or maybe more.

if you are looking for a stereo receiver the Onkyo Tx-8522 and the Harmon/Kardon Hk 3485 can usually be found for under $275
I am looking at these to put in my garage.

I will say this. Compared to the other stereo recievers mentioned, the JVC is going to have the most power, flat out, for the money. It is stable with 4 ohm loads, which could be important depending on what speakers you are using.

I own a JVC RX-DP9 and it has a very wealthy amount of power. It uses the same principle design as the RX-DP20/15 do with less features and connectivity, but I am still very happy with the craftsmanship and quality of my receiver.:)

Hi Alain
You should do some research and make sure the Phono stage is a good one on your next purchase . I know the older NAD's have a good phono stage , but you would have to look at used , but don't quite make the RMS your looking for .
