Here is my current speaker setup.

Denon AVR-3805
Infinity Primus 250 Mains
Infinity Primus 150 bookshelf Surrounds
Infinity Primus C25 Center Channel
Velodyne VRP-10 Sub

I would like to replace the Velodyne with something with a little more impact. I use this primarily for movie watching. Room size is 17'widex15'deepx8'high. I would also like to stay around $500-$600 max. Im pretty much open to any brand but any suggestions would be appreciated.

SVS may be hard to beat price/performance wise.

I went with the Outlaw LMF1. Nice tight bass, and the customer support is absolutely fabulous.

You can't go wrong with SVS, HSU, or eD as already pointed out. I'm biased a bit towards HSU simply because I feel their subs are a tad more musical. However, SVS monsters have been known to scare their owners :D

All of the subs listed are very competant brands. I would also look into the Dayton High Fidelity subwoofer kits from parts express. With a nearfield response -3db point of 25hz from a sealed enclosure it will sound great for music or movies.

Hey, if you dont mind me asking which LFM-1 did you get? Was it the Plus OR the EX? Why, did you choose one over the other? Also, how big is your room?

Back when I was shopping around they only had the LMF-1 and the LMF Plus. The difference between the two seemed rather negligible to me and the marginal benefit gained from the plus didn't seem worth the additional cost.

Room size is about 20'x13'. The room definitely feels small for the sub, no question about it. Until I hunted around the apartment for the 'sweet spot' the walls would vibrate and the windows would rattle on medium vol settings for the sub :) :) :) However, once properly placed, the BEST way for me to describe the sound would be to call if TIGHT. You feel the pressure in your ears, but it there is NO boobminess that I can detect. The sounds starts and ends abruptly. I have auditioned a few subs, (not v. high-end ones mind u) and this sub sounded the best to me.

One thing I must mention: the first sub they shipped me was defective :( But the customer service was extremely helpful, paying for all the shipping and sending me a new one. They tried their best to help me fix the sub over the phone. After fiddling around with voltmeters and screwing around inside the sub for sometime, we both decided that it just couldn't be fixed and they sent me a new one without any problems.

Highly recommended!

Hey, thanks a lot for the info. I am seriously considering the EX and the Plus as well as the 3.3. There are also a few other contenders from the likes of eD and epik. The Valor and the Knight sure has my attention. So does the A5-350 from eD. Musicality is paramount bar none but I also need my sub to perform good with ht. Thanks for the info. Have a great evening. :):)

Personally, i never understood what people meant by 'musical' subs
Are we talking about tight response?

I agree... People like to throw that word around alot... buzz word....

I find that sealed subs are a touch tighter, and really handle musicality arenas quite well with them running in the 20hz and above range... again it depends on who makes this sub...

While the Ported subs are quite a bit better handling the low end for home theater, (think punch and deep rumble) better, but it all comes down to the quality of the driver, power delivery, box design, as to what kind of sound quality a sub can deliver.

Good quality Ported subs can easily deliver great music response....

It is actually a link in Stickied thread in this board titled: Myths About Subwoofers

I was tired of all the myths about subs being thrown around, so I posted a link to that site which highlights many of these fallicies passed on as fact.

At the $600 price the edesign audio A5-350

15", 550 watt monster of a sub.
That A5 looks real good, so I just now called the company.
And I think the 18" version will be the one to buy (granted at 1300.00)
But dang, look at the graph.
(This will likely be my next sub) 110db at 17Hz.
From talking with the designer on the phone, it WILL have a large footprint. (possibly 250lbs)
25x25x36 (36 tall), however, these may not be finished specs, so don't quote me as quoting him.;)

See graph here - http://www.icixsound.com/vb/showthread.php?t=44277

Remember the guy envied in highschool with the Mustang or Camaro with the two 12's or 15's in the back? My basement is pretty much the same dimensions as your room but about 27' deep and my 20-39 pci sounds just like that guys car but instead it has only picture ratlin' and pant leg vibratin' effects! I'm sure if it were on the main floor in a smaller room it could make things uncomfortable. BTW crossover is at 60Hz and at 2 1/2 clicks above minimum gain.
