Ratatouille on Blu-ray

Just got it on BD and I must say it is an outstanding transfer. Best BD I have seen to date, puts Spidey 3 BD to shame. It does have a little load time than normal though, and even has a screen warning you that it will take longer to load.

There is no transfer, it is direct digital, so it should be basically pixel perfect. The review of Cars said it had oustanding video as well. I'll report back on the Pixar Shorts disc later.

I haven't watched it yet, (gotta wait for the wife or she'll be pissed), but my Cars disc said the same thing. I didn't notice it taking any longer than normal though.

The Pixar Short Films disc is excellent. Short, but excellent. I've seen every one of them except for Lifted, which is obviously new, but it is cool to have them all in one place. Lifted has some excellent LFE on it... There were some easy to find easter eggs too.

I watched Rat with my 21 month old son last night and it was excellent. He was on my lap and we both jumped about a foot when Remy and his brother got struck by lightning on the roof. My son giggled for about 30 seconds straight afterwards and it made me realize why I spend so much $$ on hifi equipment. :D

I'll have to check this out on bluray... it's movies like these that really make me wish I had a 1080p tv, but I'm sure it still looks outstanding in 720p. I just added it to my Blockbuster online queue.

So far, the stuff from Pixar looks amazing. I wasn't sure how much of an improvement there would be over the DVD given an all digital master, but I was surprised at how much more detail there is.

I was wondering how much better an HD version of these animated movies would look, then I saw Monsters Inc. in HD on tv one night, and it wasn't too long before that when I watched it on DVD, and I will say there is a big difference in picture quality... Pixar puts out some great stuff. I would love to see Toy Story and Toy Story 2 in HD with True HD tracks... the DTS-ES on Toy Story 2 is awesome, I use it's opening sequence as a reference DVD when demoing my system.

Another one that surprised me and it was the first time I really saw a considerable improvement in picture quality was Corpse Bride. It looks almost 3D at times on Blu-ray, literally eye popping. Going to try to watch Ratatoullie tonight.

I agree - I am floored by how much better Cars looks than the DVD.
Ratatouille is amazing and so is the 24/48 PCM track.

I'm sure you enjoyed it!

Watched it last weekend. Amazing video, some decent LFE and a pretty good story. I still think Finding Nemo is the best Pixar movie so far. But Rat is definitely better than Cars.

Pfff, Finding Nemo is for little girls. The Incredibles is the epitome of Pixar's brilliance! :D

Not to me. I didn't find myself caring NEAR as much about the characters in The Incredibles. In fact, I didn't care very much for it at all when I saw it at the theater. But watching the DVD a couple more times made me appreciate it more. Nemo pulled me in right off the bat and kept me there.

Will the Incredibles be released on Bluray or HD DVD anytime soon? Or is it already out and I just don't know it?

It will not be released on HD DVD as Disney doesn't support HD DVD, nor would their encodes fit within HD DVD's reduced bandwidth.

They are going to release Finding Nemo on Blu-ray in 2008. If The Incredibles is to be released too, it will likely be announced at CES 2008.

Only 3 Pixar blu-ray movies are out: Ratatouille, Cars, & Pixar Short Films Collection Volume 1.

Ok cool... I can't wait to see ratatouille on BD whenever Blockbuster decides to ship it. I will pass on cars since seeing it once on SD was enough for me. I would love to see a BD release of Finding Nemo. Hopefully it and The Incredibles will find their way to BD in the near future. I wouldn't mind seeing the two Toy Story movies in HD either, those were really good as well.

I was very impressed with Rattatoullie. It is definitely their best work so far in terms of animation - the textures and environments are flawless and the extreme attention to detail really shined in this one and on Blu-ray the video quality is simply stunning (got a 5 for video and overall from HDD). The sound was excellent. The story was decent, not their best, but it had good characters and was certainly entertaining.

I didnt watch it last night; I am going to wait until my center amp get's back so I will have a center channel. I did watch the short story "lift", it almost rumbled my walls down!
