Receiver problem??

When I turn on my Denon AV3300 and it's in either tv mode or dvd mode, there is a "warm up" static sound for about 30 seconds. I checked all hook-ups and everything looks good there. Any thoughts?

Unhook tv (audio) cables, turn on and try. If that doesn't get it, unhook dvd (audio) cables, turn on and try. If the sound is gone with either, try a different set of cables. If that doesn't get it, try a different (audio) input on the receiver. If that doesn't get it, try a different tv. If that doesn't get it, try a different dvd player. If that doesn't get it, try a different receiver.

You could try a different wall outlet as well. Make sure to try one that is on a different breaker.

Probably not the tv or the player, since it will do it with either.

EDIT: You could also try the dvd player without the tv on to rule it out. Pretty sure it's not the player.

So I changed hook-ups and there is no difference. It seems like something with my bose (I know, sorry) surround system. Have you or anybody else ever had a static problem develop with Bose? Remember that it happens in all modes and just for about 30 secs. when you first turn on power.

A Bose surround system has to be connected the way Bose states, not the way the receiver states.

Do you have it connected the way Bose states?

hooked up via bose specs. Only thing that is new or different is the HD DVR from Comcast, but it does not stop static noise if I turn or unplug that unit from my receiver. thanks for the help!

Two more questions.

1) What all do you have getting power from your receiver?

2) Did you try a different wall outlet that is running off a different breaker?

There is the DVD player and the alternate receiver for my multi-channel to feed power to the outdoor speakers. I've also figured out that all I do is need to turn on the Denon and nothing else and the "static" problem happens. If it wasn't such a pain to do (small area behind equipment), I feel like undoing everything except the speakers and see what happens.

If this is stating you have a receiver getting power from another receiver, as in plugged into it, that is probably the problem. The bad news is, it's probably permanent.

the secondary receiver is not getting power from the Denon. It is just for running the outdoor speakers. I only use it when I'm using the multi-mode function, other than that it's turned off.

sorry for the confusion, it is plugged into the denon but only turned on when I listen to the outside speakers. Other than that it is off. It's been hooked up this way for quite some time, couple of years at least, and there has never been any problem.

I could be wrong, but I am certain in my mind that is the cause of the problem. I believe the receiver that had the other one hooked into it is damaged. Both manuals should state to connect the receiver to a wall outlet. And, both should also specify not to have that much power drawn from the outlet on the back.

Now the only thing coming from the second receiver to the Denon are the coax cables so I can use the mult-function capabilities on the Denon. Meaning have the kids watch a movie and I listen to cool tunes outside.

I don't think this is anything to do with connections. I think you have a capacitor going bad in the Denon that emits the buzz on switch on. If it is on all channels, it is almost certainly a power supply problem. It needs a competent service tech.

if that's what you think is wrong, is that the sort of thing that will get worse with time or just stay the same until I choose to fix the problem or replace the receiver? I have been thinking about replacing the Denon, so perhaps this will just force the issue, but then there speakers and well you know.....

I said the problem was caused by having the second receivers power cord connected to the other receiver. I also said it damaged the receiver. I didn't say unplugging it would fix the problem.

It needs to go to a repair shop.
