Help the new guy - please

Okay, so I've come out of the noob bunker and am now waving the noob flag frantically..

My new system is slowly being assembled. So far I've got the tv, dvd player, receiver (yammy 2700), and speaker cables from radio shack. I'm picking up the speakers this weekend.

So I was sitting here tonight pre-cutting my wire and it dawned on me.. what kind of interconnects do I use for the back of the receiver? I've got banana plugs hooked up to the speaker end and I assumed a phono plug would connect the other end to the receiver, but I'm looking at the plugs I bought and I don't think they are what I need.

Help

For connecting speaker wire to your receiver, you have a few options. You can stick with just bare wire, you can use banana plugs (just like you're using on the speaker ends), or you can use spade connectors. I prefer banana plugs, but either of the options will work just fine.

I also got mine from Radio Shack, but they were like these. Mine have easily fit into the binding posts on my Yamaha and Pioneer receivers.

I would have expected the Monster ones that you bought to also fit. Not to sound patronizing, but are you sure that you're trying to plug them into the speaker binding posts on the receiver (and not some other jacks that actually are RCA jacks)?

I prefer banana plugs for the convenience, but keep in mind that you can always just use bare wire ends to connect to the receiver (and speakers, for that matter). It saves some money, too.

Those bananas from monster will fit so I have to wonder if Adam is correct and you are trying to stick them in the analog out section of your AVR. Make sure you are using the speaker binding posts (red and black) the presence or zone two use a spring clip that needs to remain open with banana plugs if you are using them.

You can usually find a guy behind most Radio Shacks that will sale you a bottle of test or some anadrol 50 for a hundred bucks incase you run into that problem again or if you need to open a beer or something...
