What happens if you just leave it on for say 1 minute or longer, will the sound normalize on the left ch? Is this a tube unit?

part 3

The receiver only does this the first time it gets powered on, the L channel is NOT present until you reach a certain vol level. After the L channel comes on, it will stay on all day long and will not malfunction until the next time it gets powered off and back on; but it has to be hours before you turn it back on, or the problem will not repeat itself, it like a warm up problem maybe? It is not good to leave these old girls on all day tho, I wouldn't imagine.... So, I wonder myself if its a loose ground or poss. a dried out cap. It is in the amplifier stage tho, because I have tried bypassing the pre-amp by going staight to the main in jacks. Wierd problem but not that annoying. It's just that I really want to keep this one because I spent 4 hours cleaning this unit when I got it home, totally replaced the knobs, burned out lcd backlight, etc.

Yes, it seems like a warm up or switching of that channel issue. Not sure what might cause it. Don't think it is a ground issue or it would not cure itself by being on for a while and it it was an intermittent ground issue, then you'd have volume issues intermittently:D
I just did a google on this, an older receiver, prologic. One for sale for $100.

If you want to keep this, just turn it on before you need the sound and off it you don't think you will need it again, otherwise buy a new, modern receiver that can be had for not much.

You mentioned old school. Sometimes there will be some noise when volume or balance knobes are turned.
What happens if you turn the balance knob back and forth a few times?
I'm thinking possibly a little spray of tuner cleaner in the volume and balance potentiometers.

I really wanted that to be the problem, but I have tried it all.... Yamaha is not really much help at this point because the unit is so old. I would just buy another one, but I'm really weary of people shipping amplifiers, especially as heavy as the ones I want are. As long as I crank it up at first power on, the L channel will come on a bit delayed but then never have a problem the rest of the day... Turns out my amp is a quircky as my pc! geese, ya can't win these days... thanks!

Those old Yamaha AVRs are notorious for dirty pots. My friend had purchased a DSP-A1000 for $60 and it wasn't working at all. He cleaned all the pots and then it worked perfectly.

Does your Yamaha have preouts and main inputs (little jumpers between the preouts and main amp inputs). Try directly connecting the PC to the main amplifier inputs, and be sure the volume on the PC is turned way down. Try playing some tunes on the PC to see if both channels are working. If they are, that means the problem resides in the preamp section of the AVR.

Very cool, I was actually thinking about that........but man, if I could find an A1000 for 60 bones, I'd be a happy guy. Is their any technical poss. that a dirty pot would only conduct enough current through dirty contacts, that it would cause this dilema? i.e. volume being increased, thus increasing current flow through the contacts) maybe the DSP-A1 is the way to go.... I dunno

Well I would try the direct connect to the amp from your PC before you get on to anything else.

I can't get the problem to persist as of late.... It seems the unit needs to be powered off with no use whatsoever for one day or more now.... wierd. I will check everytime I use it and hopefully get a chance to connect straight to the pc. thx

Yamaha DSP-A2070 issues

I just bought a Yamaha DSP-A2070 receiver tonight, for $50. The owner claimed it would shut down at times, but I discovered the input gain was at +6, so I changed it to 0db and then the overload LED wouldn't flash. So that was one thing adjusted.

I still cannot use the bass, treble, balance, or loudness functions. they seem to be locked at default.

I'm not getting sound from the center channel.

Also, the receiver will not play any music at all if I turn off the "effects" for standard stereo sound.

This is a complex unit, I have a lot to learn about it.

If anyone has an idea of how to fix any of these problems, please let me know! Especially those of you who own this same model, maybe we can share sentiments and ideas. Thanks!

you are connecting your main stereo speakers to the WRONG JACKS!!
you need to connect to the MAIN L and R NOT THE FRONT l and R.

this explains every problem you are having... hit me back if you're still confused!

the solder connections on the inside of the unit need to be redone.overtightening and age cause this.usually if you push on the speaker jack usually cures it.but repai r is easy

rxv850 common problem

solder connections on the inside of unit must be redone if you are not,or only getting sound when volume is increased.due to overtightening of speaker connection jacks ,on the back of the receiver.open it up,and take a look.just resolder them and give it a shot.
