Has anyone heard these speakers? They've been around a long time but are never mentioned or reviewed. I wonder how they might compare to Ascend or SVS.
I've got their older "Platinum Performance" series in my theater room (6.3 towers, 5.5 center, 6.2 surrounds). I bought them several years ago, and although I tried a few others when we were completing this room in August, I found no reason to change.
Sorry, I've not compared them to Ascend or SVS - I have compared a few brands/models, but I suppose my most comprehensive listening was between Pinnacle and JBL. I liked both for movies, but preferred listening to music on the Pinnacles. Acoustic guitars, piano, violins and higher vocals sounded clearer and more detailed through them, while the warmer JBL's were better with bass and low vocals - just my own impressions, mind you. I still ended up using the E-series JBL's in the family room (because my wife didn't want a subwoofer in there
), but most of my listening - and all my movie-watching - is done in the theater
. I did add JBL Synthesis Dipoles as side surrounds when I got a 7.1 receiver, though.
You're right - I rarely see any recent comments about the company. I think Audioholics had a review of one of their subwoofers some time ago, and I had seen some very favorable reviews before I bought mine. I thought that maybe since they are an east-coast company (and I dangle my toes in the Pacific), they just weren't popular out here. Don't know.
