Should I upgrade from a V2700 to a V1800?

I'm very happy with my V2700 but I don't use the inbuilt scaler (I let the TV do its work and I have a Kuro 60" comming :) ). My dealer recons they will swap my V2700 for a V1800 for $500 but is it worth it to get HDMI 1.3 and the newer HD audio formats? The rest of the specs look similar between the two Receivers
Thanks
Nathan

Receiver downgrade?

I wouldn't pay money for the new receiver with LESS features.
Yes the new 1800 model has HDMI 1.3, but that is not required to receiver the new HD audio formats. All the current HD-DVD and BluRay players can decode the new audio formats and can output them via multichannel PCM to any HDMI 1.1 or higher receiver. You can take advantage of this on your current receiver and the new 1800 model wont have the upscalling feature of your current 2700. Spend your money on a new player or source material.

Check out a couple of the AH HDMI articles for more info.

I agree. I don't think you'll get much benefit with HDMI 1.3. wait til there are more features to be gotten before upgrading your receiver.

you'll get more upgrade bang with:
more BD movies
an external amp
acoustic treatments
an HD DVD player + movies
Velodyne sms-1

in no particular order

Thanks guys - its as I hoped (even the sales rep thought it was a poor idea!) but wanted to check.

Including the PS/3?

Thanks

I did upgrade my RX-V2700 to a RX-V3800. It cost $100.00 and I went from a 3/1 HDMI to a 4/1 HDMI and the 1.3 spec.

I agree with the others to go back does not make sense. Move forward or wait. With the RX-V2700 you can receive all the HD audio formats via HDMI in Multichannel PCM format (letting the Blu-ray (PS3) or HD players decode)

Where are you trading up your receivers? I want to trade up my RX-V1600 to an RX-V1800 so I can pass 1080p and have more HDMI inputs as well has use the receiver to decode the new audio formats once the players are able to output bitstream. Does Tweeter do trade ups?

Yep that is where I did mine. I think its 4 months on receivers.

I didn't buy mine there, and it's obviously more than 4 months old, so I guess they wouldn't take it. I may just sell it outright when the time comes.
