What speakers would you recommend for...

I'm looking for an entry level pair of speakers (used or new) for under $700 to be paired with an integrated tube amp (Onix SP3). I'm considering Forte II and Heresey III by Klipsch but I'm looking for other suggestions and comments on my first choices as well. Thanks!

From the specs alone, the Forte look better. Do you have a preference for 2.0 or 2.1. Imho, 2.1 will produce much better results than any full range speaker in the $700 range.

AV123 X-ls Bookshelf $165 + Shipping
SVS NSD-10 $425 + Shipping

I'm not a fan of horns so I can't comment on either objectively.

Maybe of no importance to you but I have seen the Heresy speakers up close and their oddball shape and build makes them look like something home made.

If you really are a horn guy then go with them. I would suggest browsing Audiogon on a daily basis, and in the meanwhile before the steal of the century turns up, go audition speakers around your area. I see that Monitor Audio RS6 has a pending sale at $600 there. But, if you are lucky, you can get those new for $800 or less. I am sure there are other solid choices at that range; just can't think of them. $700 can get you better than entry level...

I'd rather go 2.0. I've got a small room (maybe 10'x8') and it's very oddly shaped. All four corners are obstructed either by a radiator, a doorway or a cupboard door. So placing speakers is a challenge of its own. The fewer the better...

Truth be told, I'm also looking for a speaker that doesn't look too space-age or modern. This is pure for shallow esthetic reasons and to keep the wife happy. A wood casing and a retro look are a major plus.

The Tube amlifier should pair well with the Klipsch, I have heard some similar configurations and I was very pleased. Class A tube amplifiers are ideal for Klipsch, they round out the top end quite well and they can handle virtually any load. The Onix tube amp is not Class A, rather a hybrid Class A/B amplifier. It should still work quite well with the Klipsch, good luck.:)

and you would also recommend the Forte II over the Heresy III?

Onix Ref 1's

Check out the sale price on the Onix Ref 1's from AV123. They are $500/pair, less than half the retail price and they are far from entry level.

I have also heard some good feedback on the new Ascend Sierra's for 2 channel use without a sub. They are about $800/pair new.

Why not the AV123 Ref 1s in South American Rosewood for $499? (regularly $1200). Here.

The Fortes look best on paper, lower frequency responce at least. They each have the same efficiency rating and the fortes are heavier.

It seems that from I've read the Klipsch brand as a whole is very suited in design and sound for tube amps. Any other brand that would fit that category?
