Ack!! I am SO confused. I life in Colorado at ~7500 feet. I just bought a Mitsubishi HC1500 from Best Buy in Boulder (elevation 5600 feet) and I got home and plugged it in. The picture looks great but the manual says if I use it in elevations higher than 4,000 feet it will lead to a decreased life for the projector. Why do they even sell it in Boulder? Is this something I should worry about? Should I take it back? Get a bulb warranty? Just forget about it? We will use it to watch movies once or twice a week, that's all...??

Seriously, I have no life.

Thin air less cooling effect with acceptable fan noise levels. Certainly you can increase ventilation but it will be noisy:D
I think that is what the manual is talking, shorter bulb life. Before you buy a bulb warranty read the fine print, how the time is clocked(by calendar days or internal meter), know the expected bulb life and your viewing habits, how long before you can expect to replace the bulb and compare it to any warranty fine prints.
Maybe a small slush fund set aside for the next bulb purchase is in order? :D

This is something that you should be aware of, living at higher altitudes.

There is nothing wrong with the projector, but with the physics of where you live. Almost all electronics that you purchase for this location need to be rated for use at higher altitudes. Certain products this is a non-issue with, such as a speaker, or a DVD player, but other products will need to have the proper airflow to handle thinner air.

Likewise, plasmas used to not work at all within higher elevation situations.

I strongly recommend that anyone and everyone take advantage of projector lamp replacement warranties as they generally run 2-3 years and cover 2 lamp replacements for about 100 bucks. Considering the cost of a SINGLE projection lamp, this is a no brainer.

But, that's about the only thing that you realistically can, or should do.
