I remember my Samsung DVD player used to get fairly hot too, but never had any problems playing discs.

Is your player properly ventilated?

yes it is ventilated this is just staring doing this maybe its not that its to hot maybe i need to clean the lense or something i was just assuming that it was the heat causing the problem because it works fine till it warms up

It would not be hot because the lens needs cleaning. Something else is causing the change. I suppose this IS a new condition and wasn't getting this hot before? How old is the unit? Anything physical happened to know off a heat sink?

Heat source

Is the DVD player directly on top of the receiver or other electronics that generate a lot of heat?

To test your heat theory, point a small fan at the DVD player and see if it continues to work normally for >30 minutes. Some setup boxes and DVRs have an internal fan, maybe it is not functioning.

The DVR/HDD aspect of the DVD player is causing the overheating.
(HDD can generate a lot of heat)
Install an exhaust fan at the top/back of the cabinet.

You should not stack the DVD/DVR player on top of the DVRcable receiver or amplifier; both of these components will contribute to the heat build-up.

This is correct, HDD's can get very hot, and they don't get better with age.

ok maybe it was always hot because of the hdd i realy dont know i never noticed it before but all of a sudden it just stops playing movies after it has been on for 20mins or so or sometimes it will play the whole movie but if you stop it or pause then it just quits and gives the error check disc it may be damaged or dirty may need cleaning. i was just guessing that it was the heat that was causing it.
it was sitting on top of my comcast set top box i moved it off there so now it is on a shelf by it self, the cable box gives off a lot of heat, the dvd/dvr is sitting under neith a the receiver (the receiver is on its own shelf too) then on the very bottom shelf i have the cable box and cd player so that shouldnt be an issue and yes i did check the internal fan it is working fine so i guess im just stumped on why it all of a sudden jsut stops playing or wont play at all maybe my dvd drive is wearing out dont know much about internal components i just know sound..... oh and the dvd/dvr is almost 4 years old
