Ultra-cheap DVDs, why or why not

A few websites have DVD boxed sets at exremely low prices. For example, Star Trek Next Generation seasons 1-7 for $158. Is there a reason that they can sell them so ridiculously cheap? If I buy them, how likely is it that they will turn out to be junk (and thus a total ripoff)? Site names include scifiboxsets, My Electronics Shop, and Barginvideo.

Add Deepdiscount.com to your list. They buy big quantities at low prices and have little or no overhead, or they buy overstock from other companies and are able to still make a profit selling them cheap. If you do a little research on the ones you are interested in, you should find out quick whether they are OK or not. Make sure you read their return policy though....

I've used Deep Discount and they are pretty good. Most usually wait for their twice annual 20% off + free shipping sales for the best deals, though they aren't always the best price.

i've purchased from deepdiscount.com , while they are cheaper most of the time, sometimes amazon.com with their "secret" sale is cheaper.

secret meaning, you only know there's a sale when you click checkout on your shopping cart.

like the time I ordered flight of the phoenix at deepdiscount thinking they were cheaper by two bucks. but amazon.com (where I bought my other blu-ray discs was more expensive by two bucks each BUT, when I clicked checkout, they were having a 4 for 3 sale)

The cheaper the price, the more likelihood it's a counterfeit or worse, a complete fake. I have seen a few at impossible prices that turned out to be somebody who aimed a video cam at a TV and packed the results. They were not worth viewing at any price.

That is what I am concerned about. $158 is an insanely great deal for good quality, but a lot of money for garbage!

None of the sites I mentioned are reviewed at resellerratings. The deepdiscount price is $120 higher than the scifiboxsets or myelectronicsshop price.
