Mounting your bookshelf speakers on stands

What method do you people use to secure your bookshelf speakers on their stands? Do you just put them there, use some sort of adhesive tape, bolt them on, or do something else?

Silly question, but it will be good to know what different people do.

I just have my speakers setting on top of the stands. Both pairs of stands (different brands) have rubber pads on all four corners. I've never had any issues with the speakers moving.

Oh I'm sure the speakers wont start moving around by themselves , but they may do that with a little encouragement :). What if you nudge the stand as you walk by? I'm quite clumsy around the house and keep banging my legs into things. A slight tilt of the stands will send your beauties crashing!
Am I paranoid?

Bump it hard enough and the whole stand will come down with the speaker. :)

I've never actually run into my speakers or stands, so I can't speak to that. My speakers adhere to the rubber pads some, and it takes some prying to get them to break loose from the pads when I actually want them to come off the stands. I'm sure that's a function of the speaker finish on the bottom (mine are piano gloss black), so your speakers may not act the same.

I have only had two instances of someone knocking my speakers off the stands...one was a friend's drunk guest and the other was the cable guy...who got hit in the head with the speaker (not by me :D ) My stands are quite heavy with spikes on carpet (PE high mass stands), so knocking them over is going to take quite a bit of doing and my speakers are also fairly heavy (38lbs) so they don't move too easily either.

In my bedroom, my stands are not so heavy, so I used some of that foam drawer/cabinet liner stuff and that seems to keep my speakers pretty well put.

You are a more forgiving man than I am. Or, perhaps the guy was just huge and it didn't seem prudent to launch a speaker at him. :)

No, I actually didn't want to damage the speaker...:D

Many reviewers in Stereophile mention using BluTak to anchor the speakers to the stands. I think I have seen it used to hold posters to walls without taks. But those are people that are taking gear in and out all the time.

If I had bookshelfs I would use four wood screws. Yes, you'd damage the bottom of the speaker........ but it is afterall the bottom of the speaker. Sure, bolts would be the most secure, but then you'd need to open up the speaker to really get in there........
So, I guess the options are.........
Nothing, just the rubber bumpers that do tend to stick.
And adhesive, like blue tak, or even some dabs of silicone caulk.
Wood screws up through the bottom.....
And nuts and bolts.

Blu-tack is OK, but it eventually dries out (even though it claims it doesn't).

Other options that would serve the same purpose as blue tak but be less messy and easier to remove:
- Double sided tape. If I were going to do it, I'd use the little squares from 3M rather than actual tape.
- Velcro. Just don't use the industrial strength type because you'll never get the hook part off the stands.

Bolted to the stands!

Both our speakers bolt to their stands, which are designed for them. The PSB Stratus Minis use 4 bolts and the Paradigm Signature S2 uses 2 bolts. I must say it is a great convenience when moving the speakers around as one can simply pick them and the stands up together and move them wherever desired. It makes set up rather easier, not to mention cleaning. I'd never wish to go back.

At hardware stores or auto center type stores you can get thin .25"thick by 1.5-2" wide foam rubber strips or rolls with adhesive on both sides. The same stuff used between a truck topper and the bead rails.
