Hands down to the Axioms!

Got a chance to listen to some of them over the weekend at the Audioholic's Party. They are quite beautiful and sound great.

Ok the experts, I have narrowed it down to Pioneer VSX-82 and:

1- Klipsch RF-62 Home Theater System http://www.klipsch.com/products/details/rf-62-home-theater-system.aspx

or

2- Axiom: Epic 50-350...

I have only listened to the Klipsch so far, and haven't got a chance to listen to the Axiom.... Polk audio are no longer in the race, nor are Paradigm...

RASH
Klipsch over Polk, and Paradigm? Not in a million years.
My dealer has B&W, Klipsch, and Polk Audio all in the entry-level room. Klipsch don't stand a chance, yet the dealer states they sell plenty. The dealer agrees with me.

Between these two, I'd go Axioms. Klipsch are way too harsh for my ears.

Although I'd listen to the Klipsch, based on owning some Axiom speakers I'd go with Axiom.

That depends on your ears alone

Everyone is tossing out their opinions as asked but ultimately, it will come down to your ears. Are you able to bring the Klipsh home for an inhouse demo for a few days? I know Axiom has a return policy on their speakers with a full refund before so many days. I can't remember though if you pay the shipping yourself. It would be ideal if you could have both at the same time for some extended listening time.

The room your going to be putting them in will be the single biggest factor in determining what speaker works for you. If your room is dead (lots of acoustic padding such as carpets heavy drapes, lots of stuff furniture, sounds like a cacoon) I say go with the Klipsh. If your room is very lively with alot of highly reflective surfaces (anything that can bounce light can bounce sound waves) , I'd go with Axiom or maybe something a little less bright than them but definately not Klipch.

Some people like to hear lots of treble and both Klipsh and Axiom will give you that. I like my treble a little more muted so that I have to listen to hear it. This is my personal preference which is or maybe different than yours. Only you can answer what you like to heat.

Good luck and let us know what you choose

your own ears need to be the final judge. demo them all with some movies you know well. close your eyes when listening, and have the dealer switch speakers. let your ears decide.

i own klipsch RF82 mains and RC62 center and couldn't be happier. but, i have never heard axiom, so no comment on those. all i can say is that my klipsch speakers are ultra precise for movie reproduction. for music, the RF82
's lack mid-range in a big way. but, in movies, mid-range is not that big of a deal. i mainly like dialogue, laser-blasting and explosions in my movies, so mid-range is not an issue. for my music, i like full-bodied with good mid-range, so i have a different speaker setup in another room for 2-channel music....lucky me!

Another vote for doing an in home demo if possible. If not, the Axiom forum has a list of owners who will be more than happy to demo their system for you.

Just out of curiousity, what is the price of the Klipsch package?

I owned the RF-83 Klipsch for 5 months and had to sell them, they were fine for HT but for music they were very fatigueing, way too hard on the ears at the high end. I replaced them with Axiom M80v2 for half the money and they sound ten times better, they are simply a steal. I would suggest the M60's as the 80's are quite fussy about what powers them (4 ohms) and will promptly shut down most receivers, I beleive HK and Dennon work well though. I use the Emo "Big Dogs" and they sound excellent. Besides, with Axioms 30 day in home trial, one cannot go wrong.

Good luck and enjoy!

Thanks a lot for the input guys, the place I listened to the Klipsch was a room very similar to the one I will have, and the klipsch blasted the Paradigm out of the room... But they did lack a little midrange and were very slightly agressive on treble. I just can't have access right now to Axioms to listen and i wouldn't feel good returning the Klipsch to my small town local dealer since he knows me just enough that he would hate me if I did... My only chance is to have a listen to a set of Axioms and usually i can decide with the general qualité of treble i hear in a line of speakers... Bass is easier to adjust with the sub and crossover anyway...

I think thanks to you, I will definitly find a way to listen to a set of Axioms...

My room will be cork on the ceiling with gyproc on walls and hardwood floor with small carpet, but all on exterior insulated walls... and floor also so it is a very dull sounding room, i might not put cork on the ceiling since it might be too dull...

;)

Thanks,.keep the comments going...

Anyone in Quebec with Axioms I could listen to???

If you haven’t already try checking out the “Auditioning Axioms In Your Area” thread over in the Axiom forum. If you can’t find anyone listed try posting your question there.

While you will get great advice here there are just more Axiom owners over in there forum so you more answers in the Axiom forum about their speakers. I think the people there will be very honest with there answers. They talked me down from and EP 600 to the EP 500 and also talked me into trying 5.1 before buy a 7.1 system. Both of which I found out were good advise.

I am a very happy Axiom 80-500 owner. But would suggest that you might want to upgrade from the EP350 to the EP500 or alternatively try something from HSU. I think that you can get a better sub for your money than the EP350 (my opinion).

Also there is no substitute for listening to the speakers yourself in your own room. My small room has a huge impact on how my system sounds which is something I couldn’t have know until I tried out some speakers here.

Boy, my ears must be different than many of the authors here, but my Klipsch RF-83s sound great with music as well as movies (and I did make comparisons with a variety of speakers before I bought them). But I agree with the rest, compare and judge for yourself.

I see you have pretty much the kit I am looking to buy....how do you like it and what amp is it connected to ?

Thanks...

In The whole province of Quebec, only one Axiom owner on their forum and doesn't have the speakers i am looking to buy...:(
I do have the setup you both are looking at! Make sure to use the factory outlet on their web site. When you buy a complete 5.1 or 7.1 system it will save you a total of 15% PLUS they give you free shipping... only one way though.:(

Make sure you get at least the M60's for the fronts if you want a full rich sound without any mid-loss. I use the new Pioneer VSX-817. Rather low end in the scheme of things but I think it sounds great using the MCACC feature. Check out my pictures at jseman1.googlepages.com

I got the same speakers with an SVS sub. Powered by a mid range, one generation old Denon receiver. No issues, love the sound.
