OK I need your help everyone. I want to have a good home theater system I got the TV, the next big thing is the speakers. I don,t know what is good these days. The only ones I know of is BOSE and B&W that is really it. SO can u tell me what is in your system (speakers) and how it sounds. I,m looking for clarity and good sound. This system will be used for 65% movies and 45% games such as PS3, XBOX360, and WII. I am in the military living in England, so if you can tell me models that you have experience with and how it was set up would be great thank you for your time.

Check the prices on B&W there. I am sure you will need to look no further.

What was that other brand you mentioned?

The best advice that I can think to give is to go audition speakers if you can. Speaker preference is so personal that it really is important to hear them for yourself. Ideally, you'd be able to listen to them in your home and return them if you don't like them, as the room itself can change how the system as a whole will sound.

That said, I have NHT speakers and am happy with them. They don't make my model anymore (1.5 bookshelf speakers), but I have friends with newer NHT models, and they are also happy. I think that they are have good clarity, and they sound even better now that I got a more powerful amp (as they aren't very efficient).

Get out and audition. Take your time as speakers are the most important part of your system.

You have a number of options in Britain that are well worth giving a listen. Among these are Monitor Audio, Epos and Castle, as well as some French brands that are likely available like Triangle or Focal.JMLabs.

Knowing your budget for the speakers will definitely help people make recommendations. Whatever your price point, you are likely to find better speakers than Bose. So just forget about them. Yeah, I said it.

There is no doubt B&W makes some good speakers. Whether you will like them or not, no one here can predict. However, I do feel there are better values to be had for your money, if you look around. Other British makers include, if I am not mistaken, Monitor Audio and Mordaunt-Short. No experience with Mordaunts (I think rnatalli has some; he can help) but I certainly liked some Monitor Audios.

I'm kind of hooked on the B & W 600 series stuff myself these days.

LOL!:D They are just good speakers. And, as you get up into their higher-end models, it becomes clearly apparent that this company knows how to build a speaker.;)

Indeed I can. If detail and clarity are high priorities, Mordaunts are right up there. The Axioms and Ascends I've heard are also good choices. I like the Mordaunts over both. Axioms were a bit too bright to my ear and Ascends a bit too neutral. But all three of these were clean and detailed. Here's a review I did recently of 6 different speakers including my own Mordaunts:

Seeing you're in England, Mordaunts, Monitor Audio, Mission, and some others should be easy to audition.

It appears to be a good idea to consider in-wall or in-ceiling speakers.

Ah, yes. Because, no matter how good a speaker company is at designing a box, nothing compares to the walls or ceiling of a house.
