A long "RUN" for my Subwoofer. Need some advice.

Hello all:
I am currently working on the installation of my Audio Gear in my Home Theater Room. My A/V Rack will be on the right when entering the room, and my Sub will be on the left. The run for the RCA connections to the Sub will be about 10-12 feet away from my A/V Receiver(Onkyo TX-SR875). Where can I get a good type of RCA cable for this type of use, and what brand is best for this? (Aperion Audio S-12 Sub.) Also, and probably most importantly, is a run that long going to cause any type of a dropoff in signal strength? I will also be using a "Y" connecter to split the "Sub" signal being sent out by my A/V Receiver, between the Sub itself and the "Buttkicker" Amp. that I have.
Thanks all! Joe B. Warwick, NY.

I have been using Bluejeanscable.com

Nothing but good things to say about them.

I just got a 60' sub cable from Blue Jeans Cables.

I don't think that 12' is that long a run! :)

lmao = I got a 41' cable from them for my Sub.
When a buddy of mine found out he wanted to know if the Sub was located in the garage.:p

Yeah. I kinda went over board with my cable. 30' would have been enough...

So I'll wear the DUNCE cap today. I have never seen a "RCA" cable that went beyond a few feet. So 12 feet seemed a bit long, and that led me to ASSUME that using a very long length of RCA cable wasn't advisable for some reason.
That's what I get for ASSUMING!

Joe I bought a 1,000' spool of Tributaries RG6 and used about 500' of it for most of the in-wall component runs, including about 130' for six locations of subwoofer runs terminated with F-connectors on wall plates for our TV/listening room without any signal degradation whatsoever.

A 12' run is not considered a long run and you'll not need to worry about any kind of signal loss.

:)

Hey don't feel bad! I made my share of silly things with cables!

A regular RCA cable might have a hard time keeping the signal "clean" with those lengths. The sub cables I use (LC-1 cable from Blue Jeans Cables) is shielded from interference by 2 braided shields.

I wouldn't use a "regular" RCA cable for my sub. Then again, I can't say I know what I'm talking about...

Kolia, would most store bought subwoofer cable be of a shielded RG type cable and not an unshielded RCA cable? Maybe I should be the one wearing the DUNCE cap today because I've never really examined what type material manufactured sub cable was made from! ;)

I really don't know. I would assume these purpose built cables would be shielded.

I guess the question could be asked another way. Is your sub humming? Any low frequency parasite sound? If it your sub sounds great, then your setup is obviously okay.

I've gotten into the habit of ordering my cables from Blue Jeans. If I need a cable "right now", I also buy it at Best Buy and return it when the "real" cables arrive...:p
