I decided that this weekend I will purchase and install the Lutron Maestro IR dimmer so I can dim the light over the fireplace when I want a little ambient light when watching movies.
I had a 3 gang wallplate with one switch controlling the fan, one switch controlling the fan lights, and the last switch controlling the spotlight over the fireplace. I replaced the fan light switch with a simple slide dimmer and the fan motor switch with a 3 speed fan control and the fireplace light switch with the Maestro.
All I can say is thing is cool and the remote works perfectly. The hardest part, as always, is dealing with so many wires in a small wallbox but once all of the controls were installed, every thing worked on the first try. You can dim the light to practically zero, you can define a 'fade-to-off' time between 10 and 60 seconds, one touch to full bright or full dim, and double tap to return to your preferred level.
Now I just have to program my MX-350 with the commands and I'll be able to dim the lights from the couch. Ah, life's simple pleasures.
