Oh, I hadn't realized that, I suppose I should have read this thread more closely.:)
That's okay. We're just leisurely talking for fun. Nothing serious.:D
I guess if everyone offered TrueHD, DTS-MA would be dead. Like you said, there would be no need for DTS-MA-----but only if everyone offered either TrueHD or LPCM. So to hear Lossless audio on BD movies of Alien Vs Predator, Fantastic 4, Kingdom of Heaven, & Planet of The Apes, you need a DTS-MA decoder. Soon. Soon.

Just like I have never been able to tell the difference between DTS & DD. To be completely honest, I can't say I can actually tell a significant difference between DD, DD+, & TrueHD.
If you can't tell the differece betwee DD and TrueHD, then why do you care about DTS-HD MA?? DTS-HD MA will probably sound exactly like TrueHD would sound if the discs had that track. If you can't tell the differece on discs that have TrueHD or uncompressed pcm, then don't worry about dts-hd ma.

I do notice a BIG difference between DD and lpcm/truehd. I can't wait for dts-hd ma to be update on my PS3 firmware so I can listed to it finally!! I have not bought any blu ray discs with dts-hd ma, because when I wach them I want to hear them at their best. Its lame that these discs don't also have lpcm tracks. I hope more players get updated soon to be able to decode dts-hd ma tracks.

That would be rational; it would make sense. But it's not always about practicality. I really can't tell much difference, but in the back of my mind, I am also thinking, "DTS-HD MA, TrueHD, & LPCM are the best."

But I'm curious. In what way do you feel that LPCM & TrueHD are BIG leaps over DD?
I mean do LPCM & TrueHD sound clearer? More details? Louder? More sound from the surround speakers? Dialogue sounds clearer? I can't tell a difference in these areas. I'm thinking TrueHD, DTS-MA, & LPCM are better than plain DTS & DD, but the difference is not very dramatic.

However, when I had my PS3 (before I sold it), I did hear a HUGE HUGE DRAMATIC difference when switching between English DD & Chinese LPCM. The DD sounded like total crap. It sounded very "muddy". It sounded 100% "compressed" or "congested". The LPCM sounded extremely clear and open.

So perhaps it's a player thing? A wire connection type thing also? I noticed that with my HD DVD player, I sometimes get inconsistent sound. Sometimes the "Lipsynch" is off----dialogues don't match the lips. Sometimes I noticed a lower volume congested sound--like the frequency response range has been shrunken to "1-10 kHz" instead of 20 Hz - 20 kHz. I couldn't hear much bass or high frequencies. Sometimes I got absolutely NO SOUND AT ALL from my Toshiba HD DVD player & Sony PS3.

So perhaps it is a player-to-player variation in sound quality. So I guess we can't accurately compare sounds between PS3 & Pansonic BD & Toshiba HDDVD.

Another thing I noticed was that when I had the Harman Kardon AVR-247, the Dolby Digital sound via my OPTICAL & COAXIAL digital audio sounded better than the TrueHD sound via HDMI when I was watching the Matrix Trilogy HDDVD on my Tohiba HD. Another inconsistancy with the HDMI of the Toshiba HD-XA1?

So player-to-player variance & wire-to-wire variance play a role.

Bottom line, I must have the "best" regardless of what I actually hear. I must have DTS-MA.:D

When I switch from DD to LPCM, the sound becomes clearer, much wider, bass is tighter, detail is much higher etc.. Even things like hearing people talking in the background, using DD it sounds like mumbling noise, with lpcm/truehd, you can usually hear the conversation perfectly.

DD+ and a good DTS 1.5 are closer, but the little details are improved, the soundfield is wider, instead of more localized to the speaker and everything from bass to dialog is crisper and tighter. Some people also claim they didn't hear a difference between DD and DTS. That always blew my mind, because DTS, to me, sounded much better, not even a question.

I can't see how people can't tell the difference. Believe me, if I didn't see a difference, I would be on here bitcing about the scam of uncompressed sound.
