They are still using that pathetic plastic tweeter. They call it PEI, I call it garbage.;) They look halfway decent, like many of MTX's home audio speakers. DCM is now owned by MTX, they have their better offerings with DCM.

I've played around with them partexpress. They sound good, just really small.

they have 6.5" woofers, what about that point of reference would make them hard to scale?

I found the MTX 60I's for $154.70 a pair! They got to be worth a shot at that price.

I disagree. I think that you can get better speakers, bounds better, for $150 a pair.

I would get those Mission M70's for $80 after shipping before the MTX. The MTX have crap tweeters, and I mean absolute junk.

The Mission and the MTX are in two totally different ball parks! The M70 "book shelf" are two of the cubes they put in the surround sound group they sell.
The M70's are a single 5.25" woofer in a bass reflex box still rated at 87db SLP. That should tell you something about the quality of the woofer!

Anyway they are two completely different animals. I am looking for something to fill a much larger room then the M70's will do. I have a nice DVD-A collection and system for my objective listing. This is gonna be a low cost stereo system that can rock!

The M70's might be a nice set of rears or fronts it a mini/micro setup but they ain't no stereo speaker in my book!

Firstly the efficiency is no indication of a driver build quality or SQ. Some of the most efficient load bearing speakers are the best sounding speakers out there. It is also worth noting that the 5.25" woofer doesn't necessarily mean they will sound small.

Athena has offerings in your budget that would sound better than the MTX. The AV123 Onix X-LS is about $50 more and would probably wipe the floor with the MTX.

I have a pair of the X-LS bookshelf's from AV123. They are a great buy at $219.00. The shipping AV123 charges is not so cool! That puts the the X-LS closer to $280.00.

The X-LS are an inefficient speaker in my book (87db). I run them with an HK putting out 120W. They sound GREAT when at the upper level of what the receiver can do and speaker can handle. They also lack in many areas when played at lower volumes/lower power. I think this is because of the inefficiency of the driver. and it's ability to reproduce accurate sound at lower levels.

I have a pair of custom build enclosures with Fostex FE207E drivers. They sound great at all levels. Partly because of the quality of Fostex., but also because they are efficient to 95db.

There is plenty of other talk about speaker sensitivity/efficiency out there. I myself believe (build quality being equal) that a more efficient driver sounds better at normal listing range.

YES IT WILL! That little driver in that little box will sound in accordance to it's size and enclosure volume.

So, you ask if anyone knows anything about the speaker. Wafflesomd says they sound small and I say the tweeters are absolute garbage, cheap OEM ferro fluid cooled polymer junk. I had a DCM center channel with a similar tweeter, if not the same exact one, that sounded aweful.

It seems to me you wheren't interested in others' opinions, just wanted to feel better about a decision you already made.

A more efficient driver does not make it better. The quality build of the Missions are likely to be much higher than that of the MTX, as well as Athena (they are almost certainly better quality). The cool thing about Athena is they are quite efficient as well. Just because the Fostex is efficient and of high quality build doesn't mean every other driver will be in the same line in relation to build quality and efficiency. BIC may be another brand you could look into for efficient, good value, and fidelity.

When I mentioned load I was refering to impedance. If a speaker has a fluctuant impedance or is nominally a low impedance it is harder for an amplifier to drive. There are some very high dollar speaker systems out there that are very inefficient and have low impedance ratings that sound great, if paired with an appropriate amplifier. So Martin Logan for example would need a very powerful amplifier capable of driving the speakers to reasonably high levels of output where a typical receiver would have no chance doing that.

I have no quarrel with you getting those speakers, you might think they sound great once you get them, but I am going to guess they quality of construction isn't going to be up to snuff, for example: cabinet resonance, tweeter break-up at high levels of output, possible port noise.

Efficiency has no correlation to SQ(assuming you have sufficient low distortion power for the application when sensitivity is low).

BTW, I would not consider Fostex as a high quality driver manufacturer in general. They may have some decent drivers for applications where a proper multi-way system is not feasible(for whatever reason), but it will not compare well in any important known perceptual aspect versus a well engineered multi-way system.
