Bose Goes HDMI... 4 Years Later

You know HDMI has finally hit the mainstream when Bose decides its products need the new connector. A full five years (give or take a few months) has passed since the introduction of HDMI 1.0 and Bose is finally giving it a whirl in two of their latest Lifestyle products. The last remaining holdout (even Sherwood Newcastle and Harman Kardon have HDMI now) Bose updated its two new Lifestyle home theater systems with HDMI 1.2a connections (2 in, 1 out), built-in video transcoding and upscaling, and a hideaway media console, which connects with other source components.

OMG! Up until now I wasn't concerned about HDMI technology.
But now that an industry leader like Blose has it,
I am ready to pull the trigger on Blose HDMI!
Acudeftechguy and I are waiting for the triampable cubes to come out, too.

Absolutely!
I can't sleep at night now eagerly anticipating this tri-ampable Bose cubes.
Oh boy! It has been on my Christmas List all this time. Bose has answer my prayers with HDMI, which I will somehow hook up to my analog preamplifier. No, wait, I will throw away all my preamps & amps and get the Bose HDMI system. But the icing on the cake would be a tri-ampable Bose cube. Unless Bose can shrink those massive 5-way gold-plated speaker posts of theirs into little bitty ones and make room for a quad-ampable Bose cube. Why, then Bose will sound better than any mono, bi, & tri-ampable speaker out there, except for the Linn Komri, which is also quad-ampable.:)

I remember when Bose first started putting DVD players in their systems, it took them forever to finally implement even component video connections. How can a company that is so far behind on technology maintain such a huge fan base?

It is possible they where trying to wait it out and get into the HDMI game once the quirks worked out, they must have gotten tired of waiting.:)

I guess next up for Bose will be a stand alone CD, DVD,DVD-A & SACD player. Ooh...or maybe just a disc transport with "mini-jewel" tubes and an outboard DAC. Clint or rather Bose failed to mention the industry leading ADAPTiQ® as a feature on these 2 new Lifestyle®-V systems, watch out Audyssey!

It must be that "Oh, honey, those little bitty Bose Cubes look so cute" factor.
People who buy Bose obviously have not auditioned other good sounding speakers.

We're all guilty of buying average products at premium price. Whether it'd be cars, speakers, clothes or whatever. Bose just happens to be good at bosewashing people.

True. True. I have one of those Bose systems too. Must be the resentment--the thought that I was a sucker just like a lot of innocent people.:)

Bose has great marketing and great WAF.

They also do a good job of hiding their downfalls.

The hard part is trying to talk to someone that is trying to buy, or has bought, a Bose system... no matter how you try and explain it to them, they swear the Bose is better.

The funny thing is, I also apply the same thinking to Harley owners.

Bose owners tend to have that, "I can't explain it, you wouldn't understand" mentality about their purchase decision.

From their point of view... the Bose system "sounds" better. They're not interested in reproducing the sound faithfully. They want the bass to have a big boom to it, and they want the vocals from the center to be crystal clear... even if that means sacrificing the higher or lower frequencies.

Simple to install is also another selling point.

I really think this is why Bose finally went to HDMI and removed the DVD player from their product. I venture to say, next year Bose will be offereing 2 different DVD players... SD and HD (either bluray or HD). And they'll be able to do this, because now, to hook up that player to their surround sound will only require 1 cable... and then another cable to the back of the TV. Their DVD player probably won't even offer any other type of connector on it.

Isn't that the truth; however, when you save one it's a wonderful thing. Years ago, my cousin was looking for some new equipment and was going to go with the Bose. Because of my persistence he went with Boston Acoustics speakers instead and to this date he's glad he listened to me. He's now shopping for more stuff and Bose isn't on his list.

Get ready now for the annoying commercials, the p.r. machine will be in full swing telling the masses about Bose's new discovery: hdmi. Give it a couple of months and you'll hear "wow look they're copying Bose, I swear Bose invents something and a few months later everyone copies it." Wait and see!:D:D

I think/ hope you were being sarcastic because they went with HDMI 1.2a and not 1.3a. Seriously, I cannot understand why.

Because they are Bose and they know their customers really don't know the difference. In terms of audio, HDMI 1.2a will handle most people's needs at this time so it isn't too big of a deal that they didn't go with 1.3. It isn't like they dropped a HD-DVD or Blu-ray drive in there...

No, I was not being sarcastic. Bose is going to do what is cheapest for them so their profits can be higher. To be perfectly honest I am surprised they didn't use 1.1 or 1.0. HDMI 1.2 seems to be pretty secure and operates with minimal error if implemented correctly. Not only that, this is Bose, they are always behind the times.;)

Bose will make a proprietary HDMI connector that only works with Bose products and they will patent their connector design to make it seem as if it was their great idea that just changed the audio video world all over again. Bose is so innovative.

That is exactly what I was going to ask. Will they use a standard HDMI jack and cable or will it be something proprietary that you must buy directly from Bose?

I guess we will wait and see, or alternatively not care.;)
