We've posted on OLEDs forever, Sony and a few others have been threatening to release those TVs for about a year or two, let's see $1,700.00 for a 5x10 screen..........hmmm.:D

I liked the end of that article.

"We expect to make more money now that we have fired thousands of people.":D
Nice miss-quote.

Man, I sure would like to lay the last part of that article down by the fire and make sweet sweet love to it.
Two can play at that game.

Those are some thin TVs... and looks like they're going to be expensive.

Yeah, saw this the other day too. 11" and $1100 with a shorter life expectancy than LCD? The technology has been around for some time and they still haven't gotten it to the point where it is truly viable for the consumer display market so the comment about it taking a while before it can displace current technology is 100% true. SED is another technology that has already been shown at current sizes but also has a lower life expectancy and some other minor issues. The problem for both right now is still that it is extremely expensive to manufacture them at larger sizes because there aren't a lot of factories or equipment to do it...yet. LCD has been around forever too, but it is only in the last 5 or so years that it really took off.

Ouch! The price is steep, but it's awesome to see OLED finally coming to market. I may go to CES this year to see what's going on and OLED is definitely one of the techs that I'm seriously interested in.

I'm not sure how long before they take off, but high end graphics work using a display with a wider viewing angle, better contrast, and more accurate colors definitely will sell into certain markets well at the early stages.

Throw 'em into a few high end luxury cars as well.

OLED is currently being used on a small scale in consumer devices. I know there are a few MP3 players out from Creative that sported OLED screens.

Another unusual capability of OLEDs is the fact that they can be made flexible, so you could have an extremely large screen that was curved to give you an unusual "all around" viewing experience.

Yup, lot's of phones have 'em too. Initial sticker shock notwithstanding, it would be cool to seem some decent-sized displays using this technology as the contrast ratio is supposed to be unlike anything else currently on the market.

But then again, I've been wrong before. ;)

The article stated they did an Overhaul. As much as it pains you to see someone laid off, it's what is needed sometimes. You turned an overhaul into genocide.

Maybe we have an anti-Sony "boi" on our hands? Have you met Wafflesomd?

I understand.

...Met Wafflesomd, yes, had in depth conversations, no.
