With xmas approaching and the prospect of lots of new consumer goodies coming down the pike, I am starting to sorta fall out of love with my trusty steed of several years; my Denon AVR-3803.

I don't forsee much interest in any audioholics purchasing this from me, so this is more of a feeler to get a sense of what I might be able to get for selling it. Anyone have any ideas? If not, then just make something up to make me feel good for holding onto it. :p Thanks in advance, guys!

It's sad no one ever replied to you.:(

You should probably upgrade your speakers before your receiver though. I have a pair of Pioneer CS-88 speakers that sounded pretty good for older speakers (they don't work now:() but newer speakers have more to offer and good speakers are relatively inexpensive.

That makes me a sad, sad panda...

Just kidding.

My next purchase is going to be an HD player, either the new one from Integra, or the good ole Toshiba xa2.

THEN, some new mains and a center channel speaker from RBH perhaps. :D

I love my Denon too much to part with it.

Must have missed this post, but thanks for the guilt trip Seth, I didn't even have to pack my bags... :D

Being a former owner of this receiver, it's got a lot to offer and for the money you're likely to get back on it, you may want to hold on a bit longer. I was able to sell mine (I think) about a year and a half ago for a little more than $300, possibly $325. For the feature set it has, power capability and rep, I'd say you should be able to come close to that figure, maybe a bit less but not too much. If you do have to come down too far, it might not be worth selling.

Depending upon your listening environment, you can always use it as a pre-pro or to power your surrounds and add some external amplification to your front soundstage if you're looking for more oomph at higher listening levels. This might help open things up at loud levels, but from about 80dB and lower, it won't make a noticeable difference.

I'd agree w/Seth though, new speakers are going to make a much larger impact, particularly an LCR set that is well timbre matched and a pair of mains that can give you some good two channel listening for your vinyls. Match them up w/your PB12 Ultra and you'll be set... -TD

I rarely venture into the 80db plus range, as the main HT rig is located in the house's great room which is on the same level as our master bedroom and my daughter's room. SO, if others wish to do anything other than watch a movie with me, especially sleep, I am sorta up the creek. In other words, we do a lot of family movie nights right now, which isn't a bad thing. On rare occasions, the family will be out and about, and I will be home alone and will crank the Denon receiver in all it's 110 watt glory! :D

BUT, I have plans for a dedicated HT room upstairs, which just happens to be rather separated from the others rooms in the house. This project is where I will go into full assault mode with the components. So, I am taking note of what everyone is saying, but I am thinking of starting anew in a this special room, rather than upgrading what exists in the current HT room.;)
