I must give credence to Adam, because he had already started a thread on this topic, but now the MPS-2 is listed and is pictured with specs (same as MPS-1). It looks like the IPS-1 only larger.

I am not trying to step on toes, it is just easier for the lurker to find this if the opening post has the ling in it, God forbid anyone actually read through a thread right?:D

So what is the differences between the MPS-1 and MPS-2?

no. 5 pretty much sums it up. The only difference is the look otherwise they are the same amp. MPS-1 has its original look and the MPS-2 has the IPS look. Other than that the difference is nil.
So then I ask,

Why did the price go up on the MPS-1? They claim because of manufacturing costs. If they are the same amp then manufacturing costs on the MPS-2 should be the same.

Somethings fishy.

Okay, here's the word from Emotiva: The MPS-2 is available NOW.

It costs $1699, just like the MPS-1. The costs on the MPS-1 are going up due to increased costs of the cosmetics of that unit. The person didn't mention if the MPS-2 cost will increase as well. I'll check and let you know.
I think Adam's post at least gives Emotiva's answer.

The MPS-2 costs less, not sure why. Maybe the wood side panels and other case parts are the expensive parts?

Edit, I see Adam's post about the Cosmetics price, so I guess that is the cost difference. The MPS-2 just doesn't look as nice, but is should still perform the same.:)

So a couple of metal panels are worth $200. OK

Don't forget the wood panel sides.;) The amplifier components themselves could be a very universal part (might be used by other manufacturers in their amplifiers) so they might not be as expensive as one would think. The custom fit and finish of the MPS-1 is tailored for Emotiva only, hence it may cost more than any other single item on the amp, and it is very likely that this is so.

I like the look of the "2" better. I'd like it even better if they could change the blue to purple or red!:p

I like the MPS-2 better, it looks much cleaner.

AVRat is right, different colored lights would be fun. :D

I have to disagree. I think the blue is very cool. Maybe it's the trendy color but I like it. Considering I've removed the silver aluminum face plates on my LPA-1 for cosmetic, read WAF, appeal, the design of them doesn't matter to me.

Oh, I agree, the blue is very cool, I just think other colors would look cool too. :)
I have no opinion on their looks based on A. their pictures of their products look like the owner's 5 year old took the pictures and B. I have yet to see one in person.

Over the years I've seen a lot of blue, especially in the '80s with Pioneer gear. I'm just blued out.:(

It's funny how we like different looks but I guess that's why I drive a 350Z and an Iron Horse chopper and you drive a Jetta....

The 1 just looks so much better to me; I mean it has floating front panels and all that!
