How would this model stack up against the 875 in terms of features/power?

Good find Seth. That is a good deal. I generally don't trust the "User ID kept private" auctions, but the paypal protection up to $2000 on this auction should alleviate that worry.

That is good to know, I had not taken that into account.:)

Power, it should walk all over the 875. The NR1000 has a much larger power supply and it is a toroidal. The flexibility is killer, and it is completely modular. This was the receiver that was advertised as "the receiver Nostrodumas would buy." The video processing would be better as well as a few other things on the TX-SR875, but those are only video related things. You can still get 7.1 high res audio on the TX-NR1000. It cah have two 7.1 systems connected at once, but can't be run simultaneously, but still pretty neato!

Sorry for continued editing for anyone that has already read this post...

This receiver includes a notch filter, which can help get rid of bass humps.

Five channels driven continuously into 8-ohm loads:
0.1% distortion at 163.5 watts
1% distortion at 187.9 watts

All channels driven continuously into 8-ohm loads:
0.1% distortion at 125.3 watts
1% distortion at 167.8 watts

It was pretty much $4000 new and people are dumping them because Onkyo never followed through on the "future-proof" part of this receiver. We're posting some info about the situation shortly. Still, it;s a solid receiver if you don't need the latest and greatest.

Ouch!!! I just read about the Onkyo TX-NR1000 situation. I'd want Onkyo blood if I had bought one of these things for $4000 with the "future proof" BS they labeled it with and then Onkyo not support the receiver w/ upgrades. Here's the deal Onkyo is so generously offering their customers...

"Unfortunately, HDMI upgrade cards will not be available for this unit due to unforeseen changes in DSP Technology as requirements of new audio and video processing and connectivity does not allow us to develop any additional HDMI cards. Onkyo USA may continue to develop new cards for this (legacy) product as market conditions and technology permits. We do have a replacement/upgrade program available for our customers with this unit. If you are interested in this program please contact us know and we will provide details and process the transaction for you.

We are offering TX-NR905 or PR-SC885P for an additional cost and proof of purchase:
TX-NR905: Unit in warranty $900.00
Unit out of warranty $1100.00
PR-SC885P: Unit in warranty $700.00
Unit out of warranty $900.00

The TX-NR905 is a $1999 unit, and they want $1000 AND the $4000 receiver trade in... So they'll give you about $1000 trade in credit for your never supported by them $4000 investment. Wow. I've always been happy with the two Onkyo receivers I have, but I'm truly disappointed in Onkyo for a move like that, and I don't even have that Onkyo receiver. Congratulations Onkyo. You just pissed off some of your best customers ever.

Correct, but but don't leave out the part about the trade in deal that Onkyo did offer in lieu of the upgrades is insulting.

As far as wanting the latest and greatest. The NR1000 will not even do audio over HDMI. That's correct. It's HDMI version 1.0 - NO AUDIO via HDMI.

Dumping the TX-NR1000 is a great plan! People are very mad. I know I am.

There is a thread on the AVS forum that explains it all. Here is a link to one of the posts. If you look through the thread, you'll see how happy people really are.
