Canadian dollar equals US$

Yes you are right, but it will take awhile for things to level out. Most distributors update their exchange rates a couple of time a year and some even less. I have had this before and argued the point but got nowhere.

That being said, it is nice to know that soon I will not have to add on another 15 to 25% to the price because of exchange.

Now if we could only do something about the duty. I know I have bought products made in Canada that were not available to buy in Canada and paid duty to bring them into Canada

Dolby CP-200,

Actually as of right now I think the Canadian dollar is a little less than the US dollar, but analysts are predicting the the Canadian dollar will go beyond parity with the US dollar, some are saying even as high as $1.10 US.

As per my above post. I went to the AxiomAudio site just to take a little look around and flipping their curreny convertor between CAN/US caused no change in the price whatsoever. So now I am thinking ............. :D

Cheers
Michael

Canadian dollar equals US dollar for the first time since 1976.
That is a freaking disaster! Unless I miss my guess that reflects how poorly the American dollar is doing not how well the Canadian dollar is doing. And we can thank who?

I think the Canadian dollar is doing well, and the American dollar is doing poorly, that's why it has evened out. Just my guess though.

Crazykelly, don't buy new speakers, you're fine where you are :)

Hey Sheep,

Thanks, I needed that. I was starting to get upgraditis and my speakers aren't even out of the box yet

Nothing to do with the dollar, just feeling the itch. I guess cause my shopping is done for a bit and I am used to being on the net looking for my next buy.

Think I will just put my wallet away and focus on getting my renos done. Have an Oct 16th deadline as that is when Transfomers comes out on DVD :D

Cheers all

Yeah, winters in the Great White North leave a lot to be desired, like warmth. Spent last winter here in Calgary and it was brutal. Coming from Victoria British Columbia where winter in non-existent and exists only as a short respite from summer.

Have to get down in the crawl space and get out my parka soon since we had our first flakes a couple of days ago.

Hmmmmmmm..... maybe I will find some old audio equip I can play with

Sheep/Adam,

I know what you mean. I saw it three times in the theatre, once by myself, once with the wife and once with the kids, and thought it was awesome. I could almost hear the bass thumping out of my new SVS when the HT space is done :D. Pre-ordered two copies from FutureShop as they have an exclusive limited-edition steel book case, one with the Autobots logo and one with the Decipticons logo. Could decide which side to be on so I ordered them both. Still have to get one for the kids as a sacrificial copy as it will be scratched in about 5min.

Update: For any that are interested they still have 30 of each of the above available at the FutureShop website

Autobots

Decepticons

Cheers all and have a great winter

How long will it stay equal for?

Nobody exactly know for sure. With the housing woes here and big budget deficit our economy is on the downturn and we might go to a recession before the end of this year then our dollar will keep falling.

To our friends across the Atlantic ocean your Euros gained against our $$$ as of today. Now I will never afford to buy Kef or Dyna audio speakers.

Hmmmmpt......

I don't claim to be a currency expert, but part of me wants to question the validity of that claim. I've made several trips to Canada post '76 through the mid '80s, and I always remembered the Canadian dollar as being worth more than the US $ in the past. Not as much so as the British pound.......but definitely more than the American dollar.

The Canadian dollar went sub-par with US dollar 31 years ago in 1976. At its worst point it was worth $0.6176US in 2002

Rick if you move down here, try and stay in the Ft. Lauderdale area or maybe Hollywood/North Miami Beach area (unless you want the South Beach lifestyle, well that's another chapter) Miami proper I don't recommend, crime isn't bad and the weather is nearly perfect year round, but the traffic, the idiosyncracies of local population can make a northerner cry like alittle girl.
