Question about Ps3 output to analog hdtv

Hey guys here's my situation:

I have an old-ish analog rear projection tv. It displays 480i, 480p and 1080i via component inputs.

What kind of resolution can I display on it from the playstation 3 for movies and games?

480p, unless the game itself supports 1080i. 720p games will go down to 480p.

Movie should be in 1080i.

I think I have that right.

What will happen to 1080P ps3 games? will they also be downconverted to 480P? Or 1080i? And how about ps2 games?

1080p games should come out to 1080i.

PS2 games should always come out at 480P, except the rare PS2 game that did 1080i such as Gran Turismo. I think.

Are you sure? The PS3 will now upscale PS2 games so you should be able to get the PS2 games to output in 1080i. For example: I play my PS2 games in 1080p.

From my research the ps3 will upscale ps1/ps2 games via component. I looked over at the playstation boards. I can't promise it but a few other threads said the same thing. Some good news .

Are you sure? The PS3 will now upscale PS2 games so you should be able to get the PS2 games to output in 1080i. For example: I play my PS2 games in 1080p.

I didn't realize it had been updated to do that. Thanks for the info!
