Hi, I am new to this forum. My JBL PB10 died on me (i learned that this is a common problem after 2 years of normal use) so I'm in the process replacing the 10" subwoofer. I am looking to upgrade to the next step but not going to the extreme of paying $1000 for a sub, the budget ranges from $0-450.
I am looking for something that performs well with music as well as movies
such as Gladiator/Matrix/batmanm, etc. The living room in my townhome is appx 16'x12" with vaulted cieling starting at 8'. Nobody lives under me and I really liked the downfiring (compared to front firing) however I need to be vigilant of a shared wall that is appx 20' away from the middle of the living room and the WAF (wife acceptance factor

Since I may move into a house in a few years, I am looking for something that will sound good in a larger space too.
My setup comprises of:
Yamaha RXv620, 5.1 Cinema DSP reciever.
Yamaha A200XT towers.
JBL Northridge Center and surrounds.
Based on online research it looks like the HSU Reserch VTF-1 may be a good fit for me. I am interested in getting recommendations on SUBs as well as feedback from anyone who has experienced the VTF-1. Since it is an online purchase, there is no way to really test drive!
Thanks for your help and feedback.
