When I first spied the NX-U10 USB powered speaker system at CES, I was pretty impressed. A portable speaker system that can be powered by the wall, batteries, OR USB? That's a pretty nifty idea. The NX-U10 may not be the ultimate in high fidelity playback but it has a lot going for it - the portability is outstanding, the aesthetics are fantastic, and the performance is above my expectations. For the person on the go that wants a break from headphones or just wants to share their music with someone else, the NX-U10 fits the bill nicely.

Sounds cool, but $179? Seems a little steep. Clearly aimed at the MP3 crowd.

Hi,

I own this unit and your review is pretty much right on with one exception. The NXU-10 performs dismally with AAA batteries. I use the unit with my 20 gig Ipod and keep the volume about half way, it burns through batteries in about 30 minutes of continuous use. So unless you want to spend a fortune on batts this unit is pretty useless for completely portable use such as picnics or campfire listening.

Back in 2007 Hilton Garden Inn ran a promo where if you stayed at their hotel 10 to 20 (can't remember the exact # requited) nights over a few months period they would send you this speaker for free. I was already staying at HGI's roughly 2 weeks every month so I had the speaker at my doorstep rather quickly. Long story short - I love this speaker and have been using it regularly over the past 18 years.

I love it so much I recently bought two more used on Ebay for only $20 a pop for my 2nd desktop and the other as a backup or for my laptop. I'm trying to get away from wireless devices and also the size and sound quality is unmatched with this compact unit. I'll also add one of the used speakers that I bought on Ebay was essentially brand new so I feel $20 was a steal of a deal.

I know most likely nobody will see this but I thought I'd pop in and leave some long overdue feedback And to let people know you can find these babies on Ebay for rather cheap

Take care,

Mucksy

You can now pick these speakers up on Ebay for around $20 if you're patient  well worth it, great little speaker.
