UK to Ban Plasmas?

According to a report by The Sun, Conservatives in the UK are proposing a ban on plasma TVs and other energy-inefficient electronics. Included are devices such as refrigerators, PCs, DVD players and other items that "use too much energy" or operate while in standby mode (an obvious revelation of the stupidity of those involved since standby modes necessitate that the product be in a state of low energy use.) The ideas come from Satan (who apparently works through a Conservative group set up by David Cameron to develop policies to protect the environment.) The article states that the Conservatives will also propose scrapping Gross Domestic Product (GDP) as a measure of the nation’s success in favor of a model that measures people’s happiness drawn up up by Friends of the Earth.

This could be good only if it causes manufacturers to make more energy compliant devices to stay competitive in that market space. It would be better if it wasn't a ban as much as an incentive for manufacturers to make more energy efficient displays.

LOL that old battle axe has been out of office since 1990 from 1979 to 1990 she made things worse glad the old cow is out. As to a waste of electricity I don’t think its wise to run a load of these plasma screens all at once in high street stores like Dixons what a waste of money.

Precisely gene. That's what I was going to add.

Most people fail to realize that an energy efficient refrigerator can save them $20-$30 per month, a compact fluorescent bulb can save 75% energy, an energy efficient furnace can save hundreds or thousands of dollars per year, and an energy efficient toilet can save 70% water per flush. None of these items are "outlawed" in the US (with the exception of manufacturing toilets over 1.6gals per)...but guidelines and incentives exist to conserve energy...on a global scale. And that's a good thing!

The Sun is a British tabloid owned by Rupert Murdoch and forms part of his vast media empire that frequently puts an appalling skew on facts. The paper is extremely biased towards the Labour party that currently is in power and it's therefore unsurprising that they have a go at the main opposition, at present the Conservatives.

All news papers are biased to a greater or lesser extent. But to quote The Sun is to quote one of the worse offenders. As such, I'd be wary of believing too much of what you read.

Well, conservatives here is with a small "c", and over the pond it is with a large "C"...it is a political party. That does not mean they are "conservative" in the sense of the word, let alone in the American context...think globally.
