As a sister thread to the one discussing the deal put forth by Toshiba, in which you can get free discs when you purchase a player, well the deal will continue and will get better. According to Jodi Sally, Toshiba's a/v products marketing VP, "Toshiba will continue to offer coupons to redeem five free HD DVDs with the purchase of a HD DVD player, and has expanded the list of titles from which player purchasers may select free discs." At the same time Toshiba announced that it will include copies of two HD DVD movies--"300" and "The Bourne Identity"-- in the box. As posted here before Toshiba is launching three new players this fall: the HD-A3, priced at $299.00, which will be available in October, the HD-A30, priced at $399.00, which will be available this month, and the HD-A35, available in October for $499.00. Sally and Toshiba TV group marketing VP, who happened to be dressed in a Star Trek uniform for Wednesday's presser, also announced that the first season of Star Trek will be coming to HD DVD in a special boxed set with interactive bonus material November 20th.
Still pushing the envelope. Toshiba announced a joint promotion with CBS Home Entertainment, a free replica Star Trek phaser (Majorloser listen up) remote that will operate Toshiba HD DVDs to those who purchase both a Toshiba HD DVD player and the Star Trek boxed set. Toshiba will be sponsoring the upcoming season of "Sunday Night Football" on NBC to push their advertising saturation. Owners of HD-XA2 and HD-A20 will be able to get updates for their players enabling them to output 1080 content at 24 fps rate.
