I brought an American version of the TX-SR605 into South Africa without realising that there were country specific features - the most notable being a power supply that I couldn't select for 230 VAC and a more subtle difference in the FM frequency stepping. I have resolved the power supply difference with an external step down transformer and would like to solve the FM frequency stepping issue.

I'm assuming that the frequency stepping configuration is a software/firmware issue and I'm hoping that there is a configuration parameter, available through a maintenance mode or hidden menu.

Is anyone familiar with this?

Also, could I change the firmware to the European version - is the firmware available and how is it uploaded to the receiver?

Thanks
Jeremy

I don't think you can change the FM tuning interval but according to the manual for my Onkyo receiver you can change the AM tuning interval on Worldwide models only. A worldwide model is one with a voltage selector on the back and it doesn't sound like that is the case with yours since you had to buy a transformer.

Anyway the procedure is: Press and hold the Tuner input selector and press Memory.

Not an ideal solution, but buy a inexpensive radio locally and plug it into one of the auxillary inputs on your Onkyo receiver.

This is most likely the route you will have to take.

Try contacting Onkyo support for their take on the situation and regarding the firmware.

I seriously doubt the FM can be changed by software update. What FM frequency band is in your country and what steps?
If the frequency band is close enough, or overlaps but the steps are different, then it would depend on how the RF and IF tuning is set up, by software or tuned circuits. If the latter, you are out of luck. But, as was suggested, contact Onkyo, if their reps can even handle that question. This gets into the design of the tuners.

Onkyo receiver - worldwide model in USA

Hi,

I want to buy a Onkyo receiver (TX-SR805) - worldwide model which has voltage convertor switch in its back panel. Does anybody have any idea where I can buy one inside USA. Thank you.

Regards
