I jsut bought a set of klipsch RF 52 series HT and now im in progress to compete my HT by buying a receiver.

And after several reseraches, I have narrowed down into 2 choices with my price range.

Which one does perform better, if any of u guys have tried both. please give me some advices.

MSRP-wise Yamaha is more expensive, but however after the discount, they both are listed at the same price. that kinda make me think Yamaha is a better bargain and im leaning towards that.

so guys..help me out!! thanks!

I don't believe the Denon 2808 is available yet. Should be shortly though.

Have you looked at the Onkyo TX-SR805? That receiver will kick those other two around like a rag doll at a very reasonable price. The add pops up at the top of this site quite often for it, $900+ Shipping. I feel it is leagues away from the other two receivers mentioned. It supports HDMI 1.3 and all the new high resolution HD audio formats that you will be able to use once they come out with appropriate HD DVD and Blu-ray players that support bitstream of HD audio. It also has the newest Audyssey auto calibration program. It has the highest THX certification available, unless something has changed in the past few days, THX Ultra 2. It is worth note that it weighs an astounding 50 pounds and is quite dimensionally large, so placement would be importance (be sure it will fit on your entertainment rack, same goes for any reciever I suppose)

Good luck

Given the specifications and features, I hope this thing is going to force Yamaha and Denon to lower the prices of their 2X00 and 380X models (let alone the 1X00 and 280X models).

No joke, you would have to crazy to think the other receivers in the same price bracket could even compete with this monster.:D I can understand brand loyalty to some certain degree, but outside that I can't see any reason why anything else could be a better choice for the price.:)

i don't think i'm buying onkyo ... maybe not even denon ... when the 3800 yammy comes out, i'm gonna be deciding if the multiple variable crossover of the denon is worth getting over the yammy 3800.

I can think of one other instance in where someone would logically purchase Denon or Yamaha over the Onkyo, if there are no plans to use onboard amplifiers.

Klipsch are very efficient speakers; either of those receivers should push them with ease. Choose the one that has the features most important to you. The Onkyo already mentioned is worth considering. Have you considered Outlaw or Emotiva separates? Either of those can currently be had for under $1k.

Just because they are efficient doesn't mean you can throw any receiver at them and expect them to sound right. Impedance swings on Klipsch are pretty bad, quite unstable.

Of course, but as I said, either of the receivers he's looking at should push them fine. We're not talking about $150 receivers here.

Glad to be here..Denon versus?

About to upgrade a Denon 2805 system to accommodate the Toshiba 1080P outputting HD DVD player I was so glad to find your forum.. Hope I can contribute as well as learn. I'm a dedicated Denon man but always looking for alternatives. Can anybody help by advising me of the equivilant models in the Yamaha and Onkyo range that have the same features as the Denon 2808...HDMI 1.3 and Dolby True are of course essential..or in fact any other brand that will give me the sound I've been used to. Perhaps a little brighter might not hurt . . .the old ears are fading at the top end.
